[SINGAPORE] SORN Charms Fans In Her First-ever Solo Concert

Hosted by Viu, former CLC member turned soloist, SORN held her first-ever solo concert in Singapore on November 25, 2023 at Capitol Theatre! Read on to get the low-down on what happened during SORN: Nirvana Girl!

Spreading her wings and going solo

Decked out in an outfit reminiscent of Mariah Carey’s 2000s butterfly top, SORN kicked the concert straight into high gear with Sharp Objects and Scorpio. After an electrifying start, she took a moment to talk about her journey to becoming a K-pop idol. It was not an easy one, and we could see how strong SORN’s bond with her former CLC groupmates was when she mentioned how weird it felt to be performing on her own without them “for the time being” — could this be a hint of a reunion?

Getting to know SORN

SORN shared her favourite song, a touching ballad she wrote called Save Me. The song sparked strong feelings of nostalgia, creating a heartfelt moment for both SORN and the fans. The song then led to a video where SORN took fans back to the beginning of her K-pop journey, starting with Cheongdam where her ex-company was located. She detailed how she managed the demands of training alongside attending school. Fans were then introduced to her favourite area in South Korea — Seongsu-dam — where she got her first apartment.

And while SORN might have gone solo, the CLC spirit is still strong. She paid homage to the group with a medley of some of their bangers such as Black Dress, Hobgoblin and the highly-infectious Helicopter.

It all began with a laptop…

SORN’s decade-long K-pop journey started when she submitted her laptop-recorded audition tape (filmed in her uncle’s backyard!) to tvN’s K-Pop Star Hunt, a competition she eventually won and led to her being signed under Cube Entertainment. She mentioned how she was the first CLC member to be revealed and being Thai, did not have the conventional ‘idol’ look, leading to her receiving numerous negative comments that took a toll on her.

She reminisced about the moment when her cousin (who was in attendance) sent over a text to encourage her to keep going and “enjoy the journey” and shared a song that was now one of SORN’s favourites. The song? Miley CyrusThe Climb.

Fans in attendance were then treated to special surprises—SORN performed two unreleased tracks: Cool and Crazy Stupid Lovers. These two songs marked a departure from her usual high-energy style and showcased a more cute and lovey-dovey side. Despite confessing that she “hates the spotlight”, she pushed beyond her comfort zone by performing a dance break routine to songs by The Weeknd, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga.

A showcase of support

As the concert approached its final moments, SORN invited fans to suggest poses for her. While she focused on performing these poses, videos flashed on the screen, featuring messages of support from fans, her former groupmates, and even Pentagon’s Yang Hong-seok!

Finally, SORN concluded the concert on a high note by performing the beat-heavy Rowdy and, of course, the track the concert was named after: Nirvana Girl.

In addition to her dance skills and strong vocals, SORN’s bubbly personality shone throughout the concert and we hope to see her dream of having a full-fledged tour happen soon!
