[SINGAPORE] Cha Eunwoo Cheekily Says ‘Walao eh’ to Hilarious Fan Requests at Debut Fan Concert

Angelic, spicy, nerdy, princely—Cha Eunwoo can be whatever you want him to be. The idol-actor left fans fully satiated at his fan concert, 2024 Just One 10 Minute: <Mystery Elevator>, his first solo performance in the country.

In the presence of fans, Eunwoo was visibly more relaxed than during the press conference that took place before the show. A hybrid between a concert and a fanmeeting, the fan concert showcased the ASTRO member’s solo and group discography and featured segments for fan interaction.

A visual and aural treat

Armed with four dancers and a dazzling navy suit, Eunwoo opened the show with a cover of 10 Minutes by Lee Hyori, the song that inspired the name of his tour. He also performed tracks from his solo debut EP, ENTITY, with the ease of an experienced performer. A fan of the oldies, the actor had chosen to perform a cover of the Backstreet Boys’ As Long As You Love Me, urging fans to sing along with him.

Eunwoo is not one to forget his roots. He treated fans to a medley of ASTRO choreography, covering energetic dance numbers like Crazy Sexy Cool, Knock, and Candy Sugar Pop while dressed in a casual hoodie-and-jeans getup, reminiscent of ASTRO’s styling. For the last portion of the show, the singer-actor showed up in an effulgent all-white ensemble to swoon fans with some OSTs from his acting projects, including Jealousy from A Good Day to Be a Dog, Sailing from Decibel, and Love so Fine from True Beauty. “Even though we speak different languages, I hope you could feel my sincerity,” he said to the coos of the crowd.

He’s funny without even trying

Did you know that behind that unrealistically perfect face also lies a great sense of humour? When presented with the opportunity to pick up some Singlish phrases, Eunwoo was no less than a perfectionist. Out of ‘you best lah’, ‘shiok’, and ‘walao eh’, his spot-on enunciation of ‘walao eh’ (with the correct tones and all!) brought goosebumps to the audience, who made him an honorary Singaporean on the spot. It isn’t at all surprising that he used to top his school.

His mischievous spirit continued throughout the show, especially during a segment where he had to draw his fans, the AROHAs. Cha Eunwoo is a sucker for detail—he explained that he portrayed a set of ‘spicy eyes, nose, and lips’ as well as a ‘2:8’ hair parting, but was dismayed that he could not depict the yellow hair he had envisioned as he was only given a black marker. Even his playfully firm refusal (“No.”) of one of the fan requests left fans giggling and wanting more.

He’s also the biggest flirt

It was obvious that the idol-actor’s greatest weakness are his AROHAs. In the fan interaction segment, Eunwoo willingly humoured fans’ requests for him to wear a pair of angel wings, hold a rose between his teeth, look thoughtful in an apron and while biting on a marker, and transformed into a prince wielding a sword. It felt more like an open forum at some point, with fans enthusiastically taking part in orchestrating his next look. A fan to my left shouted “Put on the glasses!” to which he graciously obliged, and another hollered an unrelated “Would you marry me?” to which he responded with a coy grin. In a rare breaking of character, he muttered a “walao eh!” in a feigned protest of clenching the rose between his teeth. He sure learns fast.

As the end of the evening drew closer, fans launched a surprise attack on Eunwoo, screening a montage of their heartfelt messages to the idol-actor as he turned to snap a picture with the audience. His response couldn’t have been more Singaporean: “I’m so happy lah. AROHA shiok shiok shiok!”
