[PHILIPPINES] Taeyeon Spends an Electrifying Weekend With SONEs at ‘The Odd of Love’ Concert

Leader of legendary girl group Girls’ Generation and K-Pop soloist Kim Taeyeon returned to Manila for her sold-out concert, The ODD of LOVE, last July 30, 2023 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum!

The singer finally made good on the promise she made four months ago at the joint concert K-Verse in Manila, where she assured Filipino SONEs (Girls’ Generation’s fandom name) to come back soon for a solo concert.

She opened the show wearing a black full-sleeved tiered gown, looking like the true vocal queen that she is, and sang her latest comeback track INVU followed by Can’t Control Myself, Set Myself On Fire, Siren, and Cold As Hell

Taeyeon shared that she had doubts and worries about coming back to Manila because there were a lot of things outside of her control that could have stopped her from performing here again but she is happy now that she is finally here again. She also showed off her Tagalog skills by saying “Mahal ko kayo! (I love you guys!)” and “Salamat! (Thank you!)”, boasting that these were the words that she learned just for the show.

“It’s been a while since I felt this excitement,” Taeyeon said of the hyper-passionate SONEs singing and jumping to every lyric. Taeyeon also noticed that there were a lot of fans wearing banana costumes and said, “It’s not actually my favourite, but now it’s my best fruit!”

The singer continued her set with Heart and Toddler, which are still songs from her latest album, INVU. This was followed by the music video of Something New during the technical break.

She then came back looking cute after a quick costume change into a matching floral top and denim skirt and performed her hit single Weekend. Tension hit the roof with No Love Again as the crowd chanted in true Filipino fashion, “Oy! Oy! Oy!” which turned the entire show into a rave party.

Continuing the great atmosphere, Taeyeon tapped into her inner punk rocker chick when she performed You Better Not and Stress. At this point, everyone at the venue was jumping and screaming and purple cloth banners were also raised by Filipino SONEs as part of their fan project since this is also the singer’s personal favourite color.

The live band members and backup dancers were also given their well-deserved spotlight when they performed their solos while the crowd hyped them up. “All of our staff team, our members of the band, and our dancers were all so eager with their work. They all really deserved the applause,” Taeyeon said.

The singer also shared, “I’ve had this realization that I really have to do my work in the hardest way but I suddenly felt lonely. But I’ve realized that maybe I kinda felt lonely a while ago [during rehearsals] was because this place was empty. But now seeing you all here filling this venue, I really feel thankful and I don’t know why I had such thoughts.”

Taeyeon then asked the audience if the MBTI personality types are also popular in the Philippines like they are in Korea. Taeyeon further shared that she is an INFJ and asked if there were fellow INFJs in the crowd. A lot raised their hands but Taeyeon said, “I don’t think a lot of you are INFJs if you are enjoying the concert this much,” to which the crowd laughed.

Taeyeon said that while she was backstage, she heard the crowd sing during the encore call. “I think because you’re my fans that’s why you sing well. But I wonder why you always sing the hardest parts?” She then led the dome in singing a bit of Rain, which definitely became a core memory for Filipino SONEs!

Taeyeon continued the concert with crowd favorites Fine and I.

“I know you guys still want to sing more but unfortunately this performance is soon coming to an end. I’ll sing the other songs at the next concert so make sure to invite me again to Manila,” Taeyeon said during the last stretch of the two-hour show. She then capped of the concert with Spark and Ending Credits.

The Seoul Story would like to extend a big thank you to DNM Entertainment for sending us a media invite! We hope to see Taeyeon in Manila again soon. 🙂
