[PHILIPPINES] Mark Tuan Takes Filipino Ahgases to ‘The Other Side’ in Unforgettable Manila Concert

Mark Tuan, singer-songwriter and member of boy group GOT7, staged his much-awaited solo concert in Manila last January 14, 2024 at the SM North EDSA Skydome.

The Taiwanese-American rapper’s solo concert capped off what Filipino Ahgases call the “GOT7 tingi era” in the Philippines. Tingi is a Filipino word for something bought and sold separately rather than in bulk, referring to the way the GOT7 members come to the country one by one to hold solo concerts.

Mark’s The Other Side tour started in North America and then took him to Thailand, Taiwan, Macau, Malaysia, and finally, the Philippines. Let’s take a look at the highlights of the Manila leg of his tour where he took Filipino Ahgases to the other side!

To kick off the night, Taiwanese-American singer and rapper wesdaboy (known IRL as Wes Feng) hyped the crowd up as the opening act of the show. He performed various tracks including songs from his 2021 EP down bad but upright.

After half an hour, Mark Tuan finally came on stage much to the delight of the Ahgases in attendance and performed after hours (interlude), save me, Change Up, exhausted, and at my low.

Ahgases chanted “Mark pogi (handsome)” after his first set of songs. “It’s great to see you guys tonight!” he said. “It means a lot that you guys are here tonight for my first tour.”

The soloist then explained the meaning of the title behind his The Other Side album. “I’ve been in GOT7 for seven years,” he began, but then the crowd corrected him that it’s actually ten.

So he continued, “Oh, it’s [been] 10 years, right? Being on camera and on stage [all those years], you guys have probably seen [my] bigger moments and [I’m] always happy, but I’m sure there are times when we can’t hide our emotions. This album speaks about this part of us — this part of me.”

After that short chat with the crowd, Mark then performed more songs from his 2022 studio album, continuing with far away, last breath, and let u go.

Before singing my life, Mark introduced the song as being about “taking a step back and thinking about what you want in your life”. He then continued on the show with Fallin’ and Your World.

“I heard that all the other [GOT7] members have been here already except me,” Mark said in another talking segment with the audience. “I’m sorry it took so long [for me to come]. You guys keep holding onto your light sticks when we come back.”

The concert went on with Mark performing broken, selfish, hard 2 love, lonely, and More. Wes joined him again on stage to perform 2 Faces, a song that they collaborated on together. Wes told the audience that Mark wrote most of the song’s lyrics.

Mark then wrapped up his main setlist with crowd favourites Everyone Else Fades, Nights Still Young, and Carry Me Out.

After a short intermission, Mark returned to start his encore stage with Never Gonna Come Down, a song he collaborated on with BIBI for the soundtrack of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021).

In the fan-made video that was shown during the encore stage, the words “GOT7 will remain 7 forever” were shown. There was also a green bird (ahgase in Korean means “baby bird”) with a sash of badges of all the GOT7 members who’s had concerts in Manila; in the last scene, a Mark Tuan badge was finally added to the sash.

Mark thanked his fans for the fan project they prepared and shared a heartfelt message with them:

“[We] shouldn’t stress too much about the future, and let’s live in the moment. [There was] a lot of mystery when we left the company, but I’m here now. I’m here with you guys. And I want you to know that I’m [always] gonna be here for you, and so is the rest of the six boys, as long as you guys know that we’re still GOT7.”

Mark also mentioned that everyone in the group still keeps in touch. “Hopefully, one day we can go back [all together] and see you guys,” he said.

He also shared some anecdotes from his fan signing event the day prior to his concert. He remembered that some fans told him that they started listening to GOT7 in high school, and now they’re working adults.

“We’re getting old together,” Mark joked. “Some of you are having babies already, and I hope one day you can bring them to us and say, ‘These are our boys.’”

To end the unforgettable night, Mark closed the show with performances of One in a Million, my name, This is Everything, and imysm.

Mark is now headed back to Bangkok and then to Seoul to continue his The Other Side Asia tour.
