[MALAYSIA] Red Ocean of Love for Kim Jae Joong in Kuala Lumpur

After 12 years, the legendary soloist Kim Jae Joong returned to Malaysia with his 2022 Asia Tour Concert In Kuala Lumpur, held at Plenary Hall, KLCC on September 23, 2022. The 36-year-old South Korean planned a solo show two years ago in Kuala Lumpur but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. JaeFans across nations such as the United States, Canada, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea became a part of the red ocean crowd last Saturday.

Starting Off With Powerful Vocals

The hall was lively, starting with the singer’s first song Just Another Girl from his hit album WWW. Jae Joong expressed it felt great to be back in Malaysia even though it had been more than decade since his last visit. He learnt a new Malay word ‘Cantik’ (pretty) and showed his flirty side with the fans. The singer then launched into his back-to-back hits, BPM and Tick-Tack. Jae Joong then mellowed down with Let The Rhythm Flow, a slow-tempo track, which showcased his soothing vocals accompanied by the blue hue and spotlight that shone down on him.

The night continued with a head-banging rock anthem, Welcome to My Wild World, where Jae Joong proved his vocal capabilities. A concert VCR was shown in between segments, including videos of his childhood with his parents and the preparation of his album, as well as a pre-recorded Q&A with fans. Jae Joong opened up about his upbringing — a close bond with his very supportive mother, difficult moments in his career, and the depths to which he dug into his Instagram posts. Jae Joong concluded that he will be back in Malaysia again next year or possibly the year after, to which JaeFans responded excitedly.

Various Genres

The Rock Prince showed off his excellent singing skills, ranging from rock to ballad songs such as I Want to Ask You, Tender Love and Locking Love. Jae Joong was caught off guard when he saw a long banner with ‘Abang’ Jae Joong, the Malay equivalent to ‘Oppa’. He mouthed ‘Abang’ Jae Joong with confusion while pointing to himself and smiled warmly as fans nodded. Jae Joong was also seen in various outfits according to different song genres. He wore a fancy jacket at the beginning, an all-white costume for the ballads, a glittery jacket throughout the rock performances, and a T-shirt during the final act of the concert.

In a span of nearly two hours, Jae Joong showed off his singing experience as he performed 17 songs back-to-back from Born Gene and his earlier albums WWW, I and No. X, including songs entitled Rotten Love, Broken Mirror and 9+1#. He expressed his sorrow for not being able to extend the concert as he had to catch a flight on the same night. “I will definitely remember our promise,” he said.

The Show Must Go On

As the concert progressed into its second half, Jae Joong said he needed a break and sat down on the floor. The singer revealed that he had been injured during a recent performance in Seoul. The wound on his right knee had re-opened, and he was bleeding profusely while performing Mine. However, he showed his professional side by continuing to perform two consecutive songs, Good Morning Night and Walking on Water. As the concert ended, Jae Joong serenade his fans with encore songs such as Rain, Tomorrow and Nobody Like You.

The concert really showed the bond between the singer-actor and his fans as both gave their fullest to enjoy and create beautiful memories together! We hope that JaeFans were living their best day throughout the concert and look forward to Jae Joong’s future concerts in Malaysia.
