[MALAYSIA] NU’EST Promises To Return To Malaysian ‘Sayang’!

Marking their third time back in Malaysia after the previous Sunway showcase and KWAVE joint concert, NU’EST fulfilled their once upon a time promise for Malaysian LOVEs with a solo concert after seven long years! As part of their 2019 NU’EST Tour Segno, JR, Aron, Baekho, Minhyun and Ren successfully fulfilled the two-hour long concert with remarkable performances and high energy on 7th September 2019 at the Stadium Malawati Shah Alam.

A Nostalgic Opening

Known for their strength in contemporary ballads, NU’EST started the show with the massive six year-old hit song “HELLO”, followed by “LOVE PAINT”, “OVERCOME” and the latest “BET BET”. The stage for the opening was impressive, as it was accompanied by amazing lighting work and pyrotechnics – leaving the audience enthralled by the boys’ performances and stage presence. Years of being in the industry showed just how much NU’EST evolved from seven years ago, completing their skills as professional entertainers on the stage while skillfully interacting with their fans.

The boys then introduced themselves in Malay, resulting in a lovely cheers from Malaysian LOVEs – creating a special bond between the boys and the audience. Minhyun warmly said “Aku rindu padamu,” which translates to “I miss you,” – since it has been seven long years of waiting.

The show then continued with some addictive jams “LOOK” and “R.L.T.L”, showcasing their synchronization as a group in their choreography. The boys went closer to their LOVEs’ hearts by singing the lovely “I’M BAD” while interacting with the fans in the crowd. The sweetness continued with JR and Minhyun teaming up to deliver “DAYBREAK”, a unit song that was made especially for LOVE.

Effortlessly Talented

The show however did not stop there. Expecting that LOVEs were not getting enough, they stepped up their game as solo performers, highlighting their versatility and ability as entertainers. The segment kicked off with Baekho performing “THANKSFUL FOR YOU”, a ballad where he could harness the power of his live vocals for the crowd to listen to. Following BaekHo was MinHyun, who came up on stage on a high rise platform for “UNIVERSE”. Ren, the youngest of the group exceeded the audience’s expectations with his sensual “PARADISE” performance, equipped with impressive props and long curtains to grace his act.

Following that was Aron, who opted for a rather chill and relaxed performance as he chose to sing a jazz version of “GOOD LOVE”, showing off his vocal colour despite being the rapper of the group. The last in the line was leader JR, who sang “I HATE YOU”, expressing himself with a powerful rock vibe and dance synergy between him and the backup dancers, living up to his title as the group’s lead dancer. LOVEs showed their support by changing their lightstick colours according to the member’s official colour during each solo performance.

After a mind blowing experience from each of them, NU’EST continued the stage by expressing their appreciation towards LOVEs with their sugary slow jams, “A LITTLE BIT MORE”, “ONEKIS2”, “LOST & FOUND”, “VVITH” and “PRETTY”. Throughout the whole performance, NU’EST waved their hands and even flashed finger hearts. The segment turned into a rather personal and intimate session between the fans and the boys, as NU’EST constantly engaged with the crowd, as expected from the seasoned performers.

A Carousel of Memories

Never forgetting the root of their success, NU’EST completed the concert with their old but legendary tracks “FACE”, “ACTION” and “BEAUTIFUL GHOST”. They even wore uniform stage outfits, the same outfits that they used to wear back when they first debuted in the industry. Even though the songs were not recent, NU’EST still performed like energetic rookies, making the crowd cheer for them loudly with impressive fan-chants.

Realising it was almost the end of the show, each of the members expressed their humble gratitude for all of their fans that came for their concert. The concert shifted to an emotional voyage as they performed “SEGNO” before leaving the stage, only to start their encore with a heartfelt VCR, where NU’EST surprised LOVEs with thoughtfully written messages – each of them expressing their thanks and gratefulness for all the support they have been receiving throughout the years.

The emotional VCR had left the crowd in tears, but NU’EST came up on stage again to reassure LOVEs with “A SONG FOR YOU”, “NOT OVER YOU” and “HEY, LOVE” before closing their stage for real. NU’EST, who had promised again and again to come back in their next concert in Malaysia, made it much easier for LOVEs to let them leave the stage.

In short, the two-hour long show was an impactful one, with NU’EST excellently expressing themselves to the crowd and performing with wonderful vitality. The staging was equipped with amazing LED displays, explosions, chasing lights, and pyrotechnics, making it one of the best concerts to experience internationally.
