[MALAYSIA] Malaysian K-Pop Fans Unite with Grandwave’s First Music Festival in 2023

The biggest Grand Wave K-Pop Music Festival in Malaysia took place at Surf Beach Sunway Lagoon on Saturday, January 14, 2023. Read on as we recap what went on during the festival!

Good Old Memories

The day started off with the emcee introducing the first performer, Park Bom onto the stage which received a lot of applause and support especially from BLACKJACKs

She fiercely unveiled her performance with Fire, which is one of the 2NE1’s hit tracks before slowing down the mood with a few ballad songs, Spring, 4:44 and Do Re Mi Fa Sol
Park Bom continued the evening by having audiences singing along to Don’t Cry, Shameful and You And I together. She then started to approach the crowds in order to show her gratitude before ending her show in a melancholic way.

Green and White Oceans Lighten Up The Night

The crowds turned into a green ocean as soon as Youngjae of GOT7 came up onto the stage and performed his solo songs, Vibin, SUGAR and Tasty. His dance moves captivated the whole crowd while also successfully caught everyone’s attention with his visuals!

He then took a moment to cool down by conversing with the fans in between his performances. He was surprised that the Malaysian crowd was able to understand and respond to his questions before his sentences were being translated by the local translator. He expressed his awe to his Malaysian fans!

Youngjae continued the night with his next songs, Focus and CREMA before saying farewell to the fans.

From the green oceans, the crowd finally changed to white oceans. Fans were ready to welcome CHEN of EXO to appear on the stage. Once he hit the first note of SHALL WE?, everyone in the crowd immediately sang along with him. This beautiful moment continued for the next three songs which were Beautiful Goodbye, Last Scene and I Don’t Even Mind.

A warm welcome from the whole crowd that night made CHEN express his happiness to be back in Malaysia. He also promised to bring EXO as a whole group to Malaysia soon and made everyone look forward to it!

He sent off the crowds by singing two of his popular drama soundtracks, Best Luck and Everytime from the 2016 hit K-drama, Descendants of The Sun which were loved by everyone.

I Am a Shining Solo

The night deepened with the next solo artist, SHAUN which he brings along a band to add colours to his performance. He sang passionately to Lunisonar, Don’t Let Me Know and Road.

He then took the chance to communicate with his fans by saying a few words in Bahasa Melayu and one of them was “Aku Cinta Kamu” (I love you). Finally, he ended his night by singing to his hit track Way Back Home.

DJ SODA later came on the stage with various remixes of her own songs and other hit K-Pop tracks like BLACKPINK Pink Venom for an hour. She also took the chance to get closer with the fans, appreciating their supports and loves before ending her show.

Up next was the most-awaited artist by the crowd as we heard his name being chanted by fans that had been waiting for him. Kim Hanbin or more well-known as B.I started his performance with Waterfall and Flame, two songs that belong to his first solo album.

Instead of cooling down the heat in Malaysia, he sat down and stirred the fans’ hearts by saying “Sayang Kamu” (I care for you) before moving on to Lover

More spoilers were being told, as B.I also said that he will come again to Malaysia for his Asia Tour and the crowd cheered to the announcement. He then delivered his viral hit track BTBT and newly released title track Keep Me Up, before wrapping up his session with COSMOS.

End The Night with Full of Vibes

They say to save the best for the last! Indeed, Hyoyeon of Girls’ Generation, who was the last performer of the night did a great job to keep the momentum going even though it has been a four hours long show.

She proved her DJ-ing skills and also performed her viral Dessert song to the crowd before ending the spectacular night officially.

The night was truly amazing as it was filled with all-rounded performers and a heartwarming reunion with everyone’s favourite artists.
