Hosted by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia, the Korea Travel Fest 2023 marked an invitation for participants to embark on a journey to South Korea, in conjunction with Visit Korea Year 2023 – 2024.

The two days festival showcased everything related to Korean travel insights from travel partners and organisations, as well as a series of activities, offering the opportunity to explore regional Korean tourism destinations.

In addition to that, the festival also curated a series of K-Beauty, K-Content, and K-Food Zones that transported attendees to the heart of South Korea’s beauty, media, and culinary delights, allowing all attendees to immerse themselves in these aspects of K-Culture.

The highlight of the first day of the festival was the K-Drama OST Concert, which featured four talented artists: Vincent Blue, Kassy, Car, The Garden and Soyou from SISTAR.

‘Butterflies in Your Stomach’ with Vincent Blue

The concert started at 7PM local time, as emcee Natalie Chai and Soyou started off the concert by introducing the first theme of the concert, which is the songs that made you feel like you have Butterflies in Stomach featuring Vincent Blue as the headline artist!

He sang From Now On, his OST from the drama Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo as his opening stage. During the interview with the emcees, he recommended some great camping spots in Seoul in Gyeonggi-do to the audience, which was also where the camping scene of the drama Crash Course in Romance was shot. He then performed the drama’s OST, LOVE CODE (1+1=1), before singing his original song It’s Raining.

He mentioned that spring was his favourite season and recommended the audience to come to Korea during that season. In his closing comment, he stated that he was very delighted with the warm and welcoming reception of Malaysian fans and he hopes to come to Malaysia again. He ended his set with Thumping, his OST from She Was Pretty.

‘Youth’ with Kassy

The next performer bringing the theme of Youthwas Kassy! She starts off with Good Morning, her OST from Fight for My Way, which was her first ever K-Drama OST song! Her bright and soulful voice was definitely a treat to the audiences.

In her interview with the emcees, she mentioned that she would really recommend visiting Jeju Island as part of our itinerary to South Korea. She added that if she was in a drama as the main character, the island would definitely be the setting for the drama.

She continued by singing One Sunny Day from Hometown Cha Cha Cha, before introducing her next song, The Day Was Beautiful, where she explained in perfect English that the song was written by her after breaking up with her ex-boyfriend.

During the final interview, Kassy mentioned that her favourite season was autumn as she was born during that season. In addition to that, she recommended Han River as her favourite healing spot. Kassy ended her set with Aching from the drama Alchemy of Souls and Sliding, where Vincent Blue returned to the stage and sang with her.

‘Romantic’ Vibes with Car, The Garden

The next theme introduced was Romance, and the performer for this theme was Car, The Garden! He started his set with the iconic Romantic Sunday from Hometown Cha Cha Cha. The fans sang along to the chorus, showing the popularity of the song.

In his interview, Car, The Garden shared that he did not expect the warm welcome from Malaysians. He shared that he was quite overwhelmed by it. On his recommendation on places to travel in Korea, he recommended Pohang, which is the town of the shooting location for  Hometown Cha Cha Cha. He then continued with Scars Leave Beautiful Traces, his OST from Alchemy of Souls and his song Tree.

In Car, The Garden’s final interview, he played a mini game with emcee Natalie, where he needed to guess Malaysian food based on the description only. He aced the guess of Nasi Lemak with the help of the audience. He thanked the audience for supporting him and his songs and performed Stay from Now, We Are Breaking Up to end his set.

‘Healing’ with Soyou

The final theme was Healing, and the final performer was none other than emcee Soyou! She started her set with I Miss You from the drama Goblin, and Good To Be With You from When The Camellia Blooms.

In her interview, Soyou mentioned that her way of healing was to travel; which was evident from her multiple travel vlogs, and recommended Gangwon-do as the place to visit when in Korea as she loves to surf on the beach there during the summer. She also recommended the province due to the buzzing hotel experience, and sublime food scene. She also recommended Gangneung and Yangyang for their open air hot spring.

Soyou ended her set with No Sleep from Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, and her song Farewell Everyday.  Her soothing vocals definitely healed the audience.

The two and a half-hour long concert was a soul-stirring night as Vincent Blue, Kassy, Car, The Garden and Soyou enchanted us with their mesmerising vocals. We look forward to their next visit to Malaysia!

The excitement of Korea Travel Fest 2023 continued on October 29, 2023 when K-Pop singer, Kim Jaejoong made an appearance for his meet and greet segment at Plenary Hall, KLCC. This was Jaejoong’s third time in Malaysia as he was previously here with his group, TVXQ back in 2006 for their world tour while his second time was last year in 2022 for his solo concert. Once again, his fans were left enthralled by his performance throughout the whole event.

Charismatic and Versatile

Jaejoong started off with One Kiss as the opening song, which swooned the hearts of his fans as they sang along with him. He continuously stole his fans’ hearts when he spoke a phrase in Malay that said, “Saya Cinta Kamu!” and even ate a bowl of Malaysian Laksa which he could not stop slurping on until the emcee took it away from him. The event also highlighted his powerhouse vocals when he belted out to In This World and Walking On Water which can be heard filling every void of the Plenary Hall. As his lively performances continued on, the energy of his fans became increasingly euphoric.

Charming Personality and Fan Interactions

Jaejoong also showed his adorable side when he had to guess an item inside a black box. His fans could not stop teasing his reactions when he was scared to put his hands deeper into the box and eventually, he discovered it was just a chapteh all along. He even entertained his fans when he accepted the challenge of kicking the chapteh five times but failed with only two kicks. His charming personality did not halt there as he proceeded to do aegyo for his fans at their request and was flabbergasted by himself. Jaejoong decided to get closer to his fans and let them take pictures of him while he teased them for not having his photocard behind their phones. At the same time, the big screen played a compilation of Jaejoong’s dramas where the fans were screaming joyfully for him but Jaejoong was flustered to see himself and hid in the corners.

The emcee even had to pull him back on stage so he could give his ending speech which included food recommendations and tourist spots to his fans. He even told his fans to wait for his upcoming anniversary as he will be releasing something special. Thus, he ended the event with a heartwarming performance of Now Is Good while his fans swayed their lightsticks to the beat.

In conclusion, Jaejoong’s Meet and Greet in Kuala Lumpur which was a part of the Korea Travel Fest 2023 was definitely a memorable night. From the start of the event till the end, fans were in awe of everything he did from his irresistible charms to powerhouse vocals. The nostalgic feeling in the air filled the plenary hall as fans gathered together just to watch Jaejoong putting on an unforgettable performance and it showed that his artistry never ran out.
