[MALAYSIA] A PERFECT DREAM: THE REGIME WORLD TOUR IN KUALA LUMPUR 2022

Dreams do come true and for some, it manifests in the form of a DPR concert. Known fondly by its initials DPR, Dream Perfect Regime definitely has given its fans a show to remember after performing at ZEPP KL last Saturday on December 10

DPR Returns to Kuala Lumpur

DPR finally returns to Kuala Lumpur to perform a brand new lineup of songs from the last 2018 tour. Many fans anticipated for DPR to come to Malaysia once again after their last visit, and they thankfully did after announcing the Asia Pacific league for The Regime World Tour 2022.

To prove that Malaysian fans have indeed been waiting for DPR to come back, the tickets to the tour were sold out the very same day that it was released for sale. After careful calibration, the organisers decided to release additional tickets for general admissions and those too were sold out quickly.

There is no denying that over the years, since its inception, DPR has managed to garner more and more people into their fanbase. Since their last visit to Kuala Lumpur, DPR Cline has joined the team and performed for the Malaysian DREAMers alongside DPR CREAM, DPR LIVE and DPR +IAN

DPR LIVE’s Command for Attention

The show began with rainbow-coloured light streaks spreading across the hall. Lights dimmed, floors vibrated from the sound, and everybody buzzed with excitement and anticipation. DPR CREAM entered the stage and warmed the crowd up by performing an impeccable DJ Set. The lights dimmed once more, and this time, when the lights came on, we were greeted by the first main act of the night, DPR LIVE. DPR LIVE, also known by the fans as Hong Da-bin, is a born performer on stage. The moment he steps on stage, his body commands for attention from the crowd. Every single song that he performed was never boring.

Clad with an orange jumpsuit and freshly dyed red hair, everybody screamed. When Legacy was over, a giant inflatable astronaut accompanied DPR LIVE as he sang to Neon. This use of props by DPR LIVE was seen throughout the entirety of his setlist, as roses, a huge silver flag and inflatable doughnuts were some of the items he had used to ensure that the fans get a wholesome concert experience.  He was also very engaging and playful with the fans. One moment he was on the right side of the stage, and the next he would run to the opposite side of the stage. He made sure that the audience enjoyed his performance one way or another, keeping the energy level of the hall to a maximum.

He performed songs from his recent albums like Venus, Hula Hoops, Thirst and Laputa, while also including fan favourites such as Jasmine, Yellow Cab, Jam & Butterfly and Martini Blue. During the short breaks he had taken in between songs, DPR LIVE never failed to remind how thankful he was for the fans of his music, and he promised to bring more good stuff in the future. DPR LIVE ended his set with DPR Cline on stage, performing a song they released this year for the 2022 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitation (MSI) called Set It Off.

The Main Character Of The Night, DPR +IAN

DPR +IAN’s intro was surreal. It was a mixture of a lot of media that eventually worked out together to produce magic. He came on stage wearing literal black wings – depicting himself to be a dark angel of some sort. Once the lights were brighten, you could notice that there had been black makeup smeared over his eyes, further confirming his persona as a dark angel for the night. DPR +IAN then blessed the crowd with his voice by performing to So Beautiful. Then Mood, then Dope Lovers, then Miss Understood, then Avalon. One after another, he gave us a lifetime worth of performance and served. DPR +IAN also performed to Calico with a cowboy hat on, and this one earned screams from the fangirls.

A fan fainted halfway and he stopped performing to personally make sure that she was okay. Once he got the security to hand over water to the fan, he kept the show running and sang without a single tone out of pitch. Some of the other songs on his setlist were Nerves, Mr Insanity, Scaredy Cat and WinterfallBallroom Extravaganza was DPR +IAN’s last solo song. The entire performance was an experience itself, and it was stunning to witness.

The music boomed, flowing through the crowd’s feet and the lighting moved about DPR +IAN’s figure, illuminating him as if he was the main character in a coming-of-age movie. When the confetti went off at the climax of the song, the scene would have left some concert-goers teary-eyed from how beautiful it was. It was simply an experience that could not be traded in for anything else. Upon completing the song, he told the audience that it was “your moment by the way” but contrary to what he said, DPR +IAN had been the main character of this play and the rest of us on the floor were simply its background characters.

DPR LIVE returns to the stage to perform No Blueberries with DPR +IAN before the encore. Actually, the two of them were ready to fool the audience that the concert had already been over by giving goodbye speeches. But, there was still one final gift DPR had for the fans, and it was the infamous DPR WE GANG GANG! The entire stage was filled out with the team as they performed the encore, To Myself.

The End …? I Don’t Think So.

One team, two hours and a room filled with countless fans. Despite having a long list of discography, DPR only had two hours to wow the entire crowd and WOW!, they did. The hours definitely flew by quickly to everyone in the crowd, because DPR CREAM, DPR LIVE, DPR Cline and DPR +IAN gave the audience a performance of a lifetime. It had certainly been a perfect night for the concert-goers, and one they would remember for a long time.  The concert might have ended for the night, but that does not mean the end of DPR’s journey in Malaysia. Let’s hope to see DPR again in the future.
