Six years ago, a thirteen-member group debuted on May 26, 2015, and has since continued to flourish with a plethora of hit songs and albums that are recognisable to all K-pop fans worldwide. They have become one of the most popular boy groups of all time, making their mark in the industry. Their enchanting performances and personalities left a deep impression on one particular fan, who has revolutionised a new way to show your dedication towards your favourite K-pop group. Samantha Iris, a Carat from the Philippines, has opened a SEVENTEEN-themed cafe in Dasmariñas, Cavite that offers an array of food and drinks for fellow Carats and cafe enthusiasts to enjoy. That’s what we call dedication!
Caratreats Cafe has generously sent over a couple of their dishes for us to try. If you’re a Carat from the Philippines and want to bask in the glory of SEVENTEEN’s anniversary, you might be interested in what they have to offer! With the string cheese that pulls apart with every bite, is there anything more that we could ask for? Although the food they sent was graciously delivered to our doorstep, the Baked Red Pasta was still piping hot and perfectly intact and creamy, which is noteworthy in itself.
Glazed with an abundance of cheese on top of a tomato based pasta, it puts a spin on the classic Italian dish by amalgamating it with the sweet Filipino flavour that we have come to love and enjoy. Best of all, the set meal has a cupcake included — an indulging chocolate flavoured dessert to balance out the rich creaminess of the pasta. A well thought out set meal, we would recommend you to give it a go!
Tuna Mac and Cheese
Price:
Solo – Php100
Won (3-5 pax) – Php420
Coup (6-8 pax) – Php720
Sol (10-12 pax) – Php1,020
Our Rating : 3.5/5
It was my first time seeing the combination of tuna with mac and cheese, but the dish caught me off guard (in a good way)! This was a dish that I unexpectedly liked, although it isn’t the type of food that is usually up my alley.
A typical mac and cheese recipe would utilise the few basic ingredients such as roux, milk and cheese. However, this dish brings out a new punch by including tuna bits, topping off the dish and bringing out its savouriness. Their take of Mac and Cheese reminded me of a warm homemade merienda. With an adequate amount of tuna added into it, this dish is one for the ultimate Mac and Cheese lovers!
Creamy Prawn Pasta
Price:
Solo – Php100
Won (3-5 pax) – Php450
Coup (6-8 pax) – Php750
Sol (10-12 pax) – Php1,050
Our Rating: 5/5
This dish is a treat for both white sauce pasta and seafood lovers! For such a palatable and succulent dish like this, I highly recommend you to size up the serving to the Won or Coup size!
Served with light cream sauce, beautifully cooked prawn, a fresh cut of herbs, and sprinkles of cheese, it makes for a mouthwatering dish that everyone would enjoy. For a simple-looking dish, this was filled with lots of flavor, and had the perfect amount of spice that gave it a nice kick. This dish receives a perfect score from me!
Creamy Pesto Pasta – 3.5/5
Price:
Solo – Php100
Won (3-5 pax) – Php400
Coup (6-8 pax) – Php700
Sol (10-12 pax) – Php1,000
Our Rating: 3.5/5
At first bite, this dish will welcome you with the freshness of basil complimented with the slight kick of pepper. Personally, I would prefer more of the pesto sauce, but this delivers a balanced flavour of pesto and cream.
The serving is topped with sardines for a change, and was an incredibly delightful surprise to my taste buds. The freshness of the pesto with just the right amount of olive oil makes for a magnificent dish that took my palate to heaven.
Chocolate Fudge Brownies – 3/5
Price:
Box of 6 – Php100
Box of 12 – Php190
For those who have a sweet tooth, nothing is better than treating yourself to a brownie! A crisp crust brownie topped with nuts, this dessert is moist, chocolatey, but not too sweet.
The decadent taste of this homemade dessert reminds me of the classic brownies that my mom used to make at home. Slightly fudgey with a crackle in every bite, this dish almost felt like it was delivered to us straight from the pan. A delicious palatable dessert to indulge in, life truly does not get any better than having a sweet sweet brownie in your mouth.
Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
Price:
Box of 6 – Php120
Box of 12 – Php230
Box of 18 – Php360
Box of 24 – Php470
Our Rating: 3/5
A fun treat that consists of both dark and white chocolate with nuts, these chewy chocolate chip cookies were enjoyable to binge on. With a slight hint of saltiness, it compliments the taste of chocolate sweetness. The cookies were thick, leaving us wanting more after each crunch. The core of the chip cookies are chewy and decadent, making it a complimentary dessert for any of Caratreat’s fantastic dishes!
Babo Latte
Price: Php150
Our Rating: 3/5
Why settle for one when you can get the best of both worlds? This drink comes in an iconic split cup that separates the coffee and the milk. Although I am not much of a coffee drinker, I enjoyed the latte as it did not taste too bitter, yet not too milky at the same time.
As you can control how much of each drink you want to sip at the same time, it gives you a customisable latte experience that was an engaging and eye-opening personal experience for me. Best complimented with the pasta, this drink is a thirst quenching buddy to any of the Caratreat set meals.
Carat Milktea
Price: Php100
Our Rating: 4/5
Are you an avid fan of milk tea? Caratreats has got your back! Packaged in a reusable glass bottle that gives the drink a stellar and classy presentation, you can also rest assure that the drink will arrive to you safely during delivery, which will not result in spillage. The best way to enjoy this drink is to pour it into a glass full of ice, slightly stirring its content, and gulping it down! The drink has a slight blue tone that pays homage to one of SEVENTEEN’s official colours, serenity blue. This blueberry-flavoured milk tea (which is best enjoyed with the cookies) makes for a refreshing afternoon snack!
Carat Pop
Price: Php100
Our Rating 3.5/5
It’s scorching hot as we’re in the middle of summer here in the Philippines, so what’s a better way to cool off while enjoying your pasta meals? The Caratreat’s Carat Pop is here to save you from the humidity!
A sweet indulgent pop that has a fruity taste and tropical vibe, this drink will quench your thirst on a humid day. To enhance the taste of the Carat Pop, I popped it in the fridge for a few minutes to make it extra cold. This sweet magical drink can help to boost your energy with each serving.
