[FOOD REVIEW] THE CHOI’S AUTHENTIC KOREAN RESTAURANT SERVES A FLAVOURFUL EXPERIENCE

All the way from East Asia, The Choi’s Authentic Korean Restaurant is here to serve Malaysians the true taste of South Korea! Operating since late October 2022, the Muslim-friendly restaurant’s long list of menu items is filled with meals for you to try!

Under the hands of their award-winning head chef, Choi Myeong Hun, this restaurant serves the genuine flavours of his home. They have decided to keep the Korean’s local palette and bring the authentic dishes to Malaysia’s shores, where our islanders are able to experience the original taste of South Korea.

We have decided to give them a visit to their beautifully decorated crib at The Hub SS2, Petaling Jaya. The Choi’s Authentic Restaurant is co-owned by Myra, a young muslim local who assures us that this place is indeed a Muslim-friendly restaurant. She reminded us to ease our concerns as the ingredients used throughout the dish-making process are solely from halal products.

Tuna Kimchi Jjigae

Perfect for the days where warmness is needed, this fulfilling Korean stew is served to you while it is still boiling hot. The Choi’s Tuna Kimchi Jjigae (Tuna Kimchi Stew) is the very first dish recommended by the co-owner herself, and it will be great for those who are craving for a spicy and pleasantly tangy dish.

This meal is filled with an abundance of tuna and vegetables such as onions and tofu as well as kimchi fillings, and it comes together with classic steamed rice. However, just a sip from the broth alone is enough to take you to another level of comfort!

Fret not, if you are not a huge fan of spicy food, the chef can lower the heat level according to your liking to ensure that everyone can enjoy this meal!

Spicy Grilled Chicken

Based solely on the title of this dish, you might expect to be served with only slices of chicken. Adding a twist to its name, this superior dish is passed to you with fried rice and noodles, as well as slices of freshly boiled eggs. This brilliant mouth-watering combination can easily satisfy your hunger with their incredible portion. The chicken is well-seasoned with their top-tier secret sauce and flawlessly harmonises with the grains, especially the chewy tteok (rice cake). This massive-sized dish is enough to share with 2-3 people at a table, and goes so well during a reunion with your friends!

Chicken Tangsuyuk

If you are looking for the best halal Chicken Tangsuyuk (Korean Sweet and Sour Chicken) in town, this is definitely the one that you need to try. You can taste the hints of the sweetness of the honey in the thick gravy that coats the tender fried chicken. It is difficult to find a delicious, halal version of Tangsuyuk in Malaysia, and this place serves yet the most scrumptious we could ever find!

Full Moon Toast

Overflowing with strings of cheese and fillings, this Korean-Western fusion goes beyond your expectations. The blissfulness of the velvety omelette paired with luscious slices of chicken ham and coats of sauces between toasted bread, delivers an immense experience of delightfulness within a bite!

So-Tteok Stick

Coated with their signature ketchup sauce, sausages and rice cake on a stick is a well-known street-food in South Korea. It is a statement food to try as you walk in the streets of their beautiful country, which you can now try at The Choi’s!

Hotteok Ice Cream

Bringing to you another classic, this heavenly dessert will satisfyingly meet the needs of your inner child! From the chewy texture of the pancake to its sweet and soft ice cream, this dessert must find its way into your stomach. As the ice cream smoothly melts along with drizzles of chocolate on top of the warm pancakes, this last dish is the perfect one to be the grand finale of your flavourful experience.

We were taken by surprise by the divine taste of the dishes here, and we will definitely make plans to dine here again soon! The staff seems to have great taste in music as well, which enhances our time at this place. Satisfy your cravings for authentic Korean food with The Choi’s!
