[FEATURE] Celebrating A Special Bond: Fan-Songs ASTRO Dedicated to AROHA

The relationship between idol and fan is always a special one for both parties involved. For six-membered group ASTRO hailing from Fantagio Music, they too have no qualms in professing their love for their fans (also known as AROHA).

From mentioning AROHA or including the fandom symbol in all their albums (with the exception of their first two mini albums; Spring Up and Summer Vibes), to producing and dedicating numerous fan-songs to AROHA, ASTRO never fails to remind AROHA how much they love them.

Disclaimer: Not all albums were included in this image.

In conjunction with ASTRO and AROHA’s fifth anniversary — ASTRO’s fans were named on the same day of the group’s debut — let’s take a look at the fan songs dedicated to AROHA over the years!

1. You & Me (Thanks AROHA)

The title of this sweet and cheery pop track from special album Winter Dream is a dead giveaway to the song’s dedicated recipient. Written by the ASTRO members, the lyrics of the song are speaking to AROHA — referencing the first time they met, “the reason (they) fell for AROHA”, and about being together.

“I’m your sunflower, you’re my light
I’m happy because we’re looking at the same place
I hope we’ll be together and create our own story
Wanna walk together? On this flower road ahead?”

In a nutshell, the song You & Me is about ASTRO and AROHA!

2. The Entire Rise Up Album

Another special album, Rise Up is an album that many AROHA hold dearly to their hearts. Not just one, or even two tracks in this album are fan songs – but the entire album is officially dedicated to AROHA. This album was released during a period of uncertainty and turmoil for ASTRO, AROHA, and the company who was facing many internal issues. ASTRO was also unable to actively promote the album during its release. There were even rumours about disbandment for the group.

Rise Up is described as both a gift and apology to the fans who waited for them. The lyrics of the songs in this album reflect the members’ worries and thoughts. When talking about the album, leader Jinjin emphasised that “the lyrics are full of our sincerity”.

“I know you’ve waited for me too
My heart hurt because I couldn’t reach you
Words I couldn’t tell you
Kept lingering in my mouth”

In title track Always You, they communicate their fears of not being able to see AROHA anymore, missing AROHA, and the acknowledgement that AROHA is waiting for them but their helplessness at being unable to reach them.

The lyrics in By Your Side, a pop ballad B-side in the album, were written by all six members of ASTRO. It talks about how they are sorry for not being there for AROHA, and how they still want to continue to stay beside each other. MJ also said he felt apologetic for how they made their fans wait for them.

Real Love, another B-side in this album, is an officially-dedicated fan-song which portrays ASTRO’s thankfulness towards AROHA.

3. You’re My World

During promotions for their sixth mini album Blue Flame, Jinjin introduced this warm, mid-tempo ballad You’re My World as a fan song for AROHA.

“You’re my dream, you’re my world
Always, forever”

This line found in the pre-chorus expresses just how much AROHA means to ASTRO. And if we still had any doubt about it, the song ends off with “You’re my world, my everything, my all”. *Swoon!*

4. One & Only

Another special single just for fans, this song was first released digitally on ASTRO’s (and AROHA’s) anniversary. One & Only is yet another testament to how much love ASTRO has for AROHA, as the release details and digital album art explicitly states “AROHA, you are my ONE & ONLY love. This song is for you, as you always make me shine.” This is repeated in the lyrics of the chorus:

“You’re my one & only one, I will only look at you every day
I sing this song for you, who makes me shine again today”

How can anyone even doubt ASTRO’s unending love for AROHA at this point?!

5. We Still (Be With U)

This song is a winter re-arrangement of B-side We Still from ASTRO’s seventh mini album Gateway. According to Fantagio Music, the song is described to be more warm and emotional, and the phrase “Be With U” signifies that “ASTRO is always with their fans, and will always be together in the future.”

All six members participated in the rearrangement and narration, directly conveying their heart and thoughts through this song. Notably, both rappers Jinjin and Rocky rewrote the rap parts in the song, telling AROHA that they will come to them.

“I want to be your support when you’re busy
If you need a place to rest
I’ll always be at the same place
So I’ll go get you”

“I’ll go find you, who is waiting
So don’t go anywhere, just stay right there
Just welcome me as I run to you”

Notable Mentions

Although not officially dedicated fan songs, there are a handful of songs commonly considered fan-songs by AROHA. These include I’ll Be There (from fourth mini album Dream Part.01) and One In A Million (from first full length studio album All Light). Both songs are usually performed at the end of ASTRO’s concerts, and ending songs are typically synonymous with the fan-artiste relationship.

Sanha once mentioned during Dream Part.01 showcase that his favourite song in the album was I’ll Be There due to its soothing meaning of “wherever you are, I stay still”.

Additionally, both Jinjin and Moonbin mentioned at the end of their second solo concert The 2nd ASTROAD to SEOUL: [STAR LIGHT] that they hoped “when it is hard, you can lean on us; when it is hard for us, we’ll lean on AROHA”, the latter quoting lyrics “When you’re troubled and tired, don’t wander anymore but come to me” from I’ll Be There. Performing this song at the end of their concerts, we are sure ASTRO wants to part with the reminder that they will always be there for AROHA.

The ASTRO members also self-made a special MV for One In A Million, released on ASTRO DDOCA (a series of short videos filed by ASTRO’s personal camera). MJ has mentioned during the All Light showcase that it is “a song for AROHA”.

Summer single No, I Don’t is a song about heartbreak, but is considered a fan song as it was gifted to AROHA. This song was first performed during ASTRO’s online concert 2020 Astro Live on WWW. Cha Eunwoo talked about how the song came to be.

“When we were preparing for the concert, we wanted to give a special gift,” he said. Rocky (one of the two composers in the group; the other being Jinjin) then made the song, with Eunwoo writing the lyrics.

Doesn’t learning the meaning behind all these fan songs make you feel that AROHA is one lucky fandom? We look forward to the many more ways (including more fan songs) ASTRO is going to spoil their fans with in the years to come!
