[INDONESIA] Gong Yoo Brings His Type A Energy and Endless Charm to Jakarta

For the first time ever, Gong Yoo officially visited Indonesia for a scheduled event, meeting his beloved Indonesian fans at the 2026 GONG YOO ASIA FANMEETING TOUR <THE LONG TAKE> in JAKARTA on October 17 at Istora Senayan. Although he had visited Bali for a holiday before, this was Gong Yoo’s first official schedule in Indonesia. Over nearly three hours, he charmed fans with his humor, warmth, and unmistakable perfectionist personality.

The evening opened with a cinematic scene reminiscent of Goblin. Gong Yoo appeared behind a door as the stage gradually transformed from darkness into light, creating a dramatic reveal that immediately sent the audience into a frenzy. He then greeted everyone with an impressively long and fluent Indonesian introduction: “Halo Jakarta, saya Gong Yoo, senang sekali bisa bertemu dengan kalian semua!” (“Hello, Jakarta. I’m Gong Yoo. I’m so happy to meet all of you!”). It was an opening that made the wait worthwhile.

The Beginning: Props Talk

The first segment, The Beginning: Props Talk, took fans on a journey through Gong Yoo’s career, beginning with his debut in 2001. Looking at his debut photos, fans could not help but notice how little his face seemed to have changed over the years. The segment also featured memorable props from his iconic projects, including a miniature train from Train to Busan and the red scarf and flowers associated with Goblin. The highlight came when Gong Yoo and the MC reenacted the iconic Kim Shin and Eun Tak scenes, sending the entire venue into fits of laughter.

The props were not just for reminiscing. Gong Yoo also put them to use for a series of Polaroid photos that would later be given to lucky fans. At one point, he wore an apron and held a coffee cup, recreating the familiar charm of his character from Coffee Prince.

The playful atmosphere reached another level when Gong Yoo became adorably shy and burst into laughter at himself. He then enthusiastically shouted “Aku cinta kamu!” (“I love you!”) in every direction, making sure every corner of the venue received a little love. His attempt to spread the words around the room, followed by his own embarrassed giggles, was exactly the kind of unscripted moment that made the evening so memorable.

An Autumn Stage and a Perfectionist Performance

The stage transformed into an autumn-inspired setting for Gong Yoo’s musical performance of A Goose’s Dream, originally sung by Insooni. The atmosphere was beautiful, but the most memorable part was what happened before the song truly got underway. Not satisfied with how the opening sounded, Gong Yoo restarted it, not once, but three times!

His Type A energy also surfaced during a conversation about how fans spend their days off. For those who preferred staying home and lounging around, Gong Yoo had some advice: meet up with friends or get some exercise instead of simply doing nothing. He was equally quick to notice a fan wearing customized clothing covered with his face, jokingly warning them not to wear it to the office unless they wanted to get fired. His delivery sounded so much like a concerned adviser that the audience could only laugh at how seriously he took his advice.

Life with Yoo: Games, Laughter, and Lucky Fans

The Life with Yoo segment brought lucky fans onto the stage to play games with Gong Yoo. During a relay drawing game, the actor became increasingly eager to help when one participant struggled to guess the drawing. He even stood beside the fan and whispered hints, visibly amused and a little frustrated that the answer was not getting through. Eventually, he admitted that perhaps his drawing was not particularly clear either. He had been trying to draw a Ferris wheel, after all. The confession only made the moment funnier.

The next game involved guessing gestures, and Gong Yoo had the chance to show off his acting skills by mimicking an orchestra conductor. His performance was so convincing that the audience immediately showered him with compliments. Clearly pleased with himself, he proudly responded, “Well, I’m an actor!” After each game, the participating fans also got to take photos with him, prompting plenty of delighted screams from the rest of the venue.

What Would Yoo Do? Getting to Know Mr. Perfectionist

In What Would Yoo Do?, the entire audience joined in to guess how Gong Yoo would respond to different situations. The fans turned out to be surprisingly good at predicting his answers, often anticipating the choices of the man whose perfectionist tendencies had already become a running theme throughout the evening. When some people chose answers different from his own, Gong Yoo could not resist questioning them, seemingly wondering how they could possibly arrive at such conclusions.

Another hilarious moment came when he was taught to say “Selamat ya, sayang” in Indonesian, roughly meaning “Congratulations, darling.” After delivering the phrase, Gong Yoo immediately cringed at himself and asked the fans to forget what he had just said.

Gong Yoo also prepared a particularly thoughtful gift for lucky fans: film cameras containing photographs of himself, including pictures he had taken personally. The cameras still had a few frames left, allowing the recipients to take their own photos, too. It was a sweet and personal gesture that gave the gifts a story beyond the usual fanmeeting merchandise.

Next Take: A Glimpse into the Future

The Next Take segment shifted the conversation toward Gong Yoo’s upcoming projects. Among the works he discussed was his new drama with Song Hye Kyo, set in the Korean entertainment industry of the 1980s and 1990s. He shared that the Netflix series would be directed by the director of Coffee Prince and would have 22 episodes, a notably longer run than the shorter Netflix series audiences have become accustomed to. “This will be exciting, so please support it,” he told the audience, offering fans a glimpse of what they could look forward to next.

Then came another thoughtful fan-service moment. Gong Yoo walked from one end of the stage to the other, posing along the way so fans could capture clearer, closer photographs of him. Once everyone had enjoyed their photo time, the tables turned: Gong Yoo picked up a handycam and walked around the stage, recording the audience and their reactions.

The emotional side of the evening followed as Gong Yoo watched a video message prepared by Indonesian fans. After so much laughter and playful banter, it was a reminder of the affection that had brought everyone together. And when the audience began shouting “Ahjussi, saranghaeyo!” (“We love you, uncle!”), Gong Yoo immediately protested. “Ahjussi? Oppa!” he corrected them, insisting that they call him oppa instead. Once the audience switched to “Oppa, saranghaeyo!”, he then smiled with satisfaction.

One Last Song, One More Surprise

For his final musical performance, Gong Yoo sang The Adult I Dreamed Of by MOMURE, a song that had been gaining attention in Korea. But even after the performance, the evening was not quite over. Gong Yoo ventured down into the floor area to greet fans more closely, while also waving to those watching from the tribune sections.

As the fanmeeting finally drew to a close, Gong Yoo reflected on his 25-year career and offered the audience a playful observation: perhaps his fans stayed young because they resembled him. It was a fittingly cheeky final message from an actor whose youthful appearance had already become a topic of conversation earlier in the evening. He bowed in every direction, repeatedly thanking the audience, before delivering one last dramatic ‘오빠 간다! (Oppa ganda!)’, meaning ‘Oppa’s leaving now!’ in English, like a male lead making his stylish exit from a K-drama

Nearly three hours later, THE LONG TAKE had delivered exactly what its name promised: a long, laughter-filled experience packed with memories, fan service, music, and spontaneous moments. Gong Yoo was charming and generous, but it was his very Type A energy, his attention to detail, his insistence on getting things right, and his inability to resist correcting a less-than-perfect moment, that made the night especially entertaining.

A heartfelt thank you to Three Mountains Ave for the kind media invitation and the opportunity to be part of such a memorable evening with Gong Yoo in Jakarta!
