South Korean Gen Z hip-hop icon Lee Youngji returned to sunny Singapore for her first-ever world tour concert held at the Capitol Theater on October 19, 2024! Following her successful Asia tour concert held at the same venue exactly a year ago, she returned as part of the [ALL OR NOTHING] world tour, which made its way to Taipei and USA as well.
The concert started off strong as she performed 16 (Intro) and I Am Lee Young Ji, hyping the audience from the get go. Backed by a 4-man live band as well as the dance group Amazon from Street Dance Girls Fighter (which was also her dance team during last year’s Asia tour), she performed the entirety of her latest EP, 16 Fantasy which included tracks such as My Cat, her “most famous track” Small Girl which she previously sang during her last time here, and Tell Me.
She noted that each song of the EP has its own meaning; for instance, ADHD was a song she wrote when people kept saying that she has ADHD due to her behaviour, while Unknown Guy was the song describing her strained relationship with her father.
After the intense first segment, Lee Youngji had the audience vibing more during the second segment as she performed Freesia, her song with Layone, and Day & Night, her first collaboration with her eventual mentor in Show Me The Money, Jay Park. Her versatility was unrivalled as she switched from singing about bad relationships in Anemone to rapping her hearts out and interacting closer to the audience in Yay.
Lee Youngji then kicked off the highly anticipated third segment of the concert with DNA Remix and BLUE CHECK, but not before teaching the audience to chant the choruses of both songs. In addition, she performed songs from her stint in Mnet’s shows Good Girl and Show Me The Money 11 such as That’s My Girl, WE, and NOT SORRY, where she handpicked a lucky fan who performed pH-1’s part of the song. She then got the crowd going as she performed WITCH and DEJAVU with her dancers, before ending the segment with the sentimental track HUG.
The audience’s cheers for an encore stage was not let down by Lee Youngji as she returned to perform her go-to hype tracks Fighting and Smoke complete with the songs’ respective choreographies. She then requested the audience to sing the chorus of Small Girl so she could record them, which the audience happily obliged. Being the generous queen that she was, she performed additional tracks requested by the fans, which were Go High, her winning track from High School Rapper 3, and a repeat of I Am Lee Young Ji, ending the concert on a high.
Lee Youngji’s command in English throughout the concert was commendable as she interacted with the audience and introduced the songs with minimal help from the interpreter. The live band also helped to elevate her performances to the next level and definitely hyped the audience all the way to the end.
The 2.5-hour concert was a true testament of Lee Youngji’s exponential growth as an artist and performer since her debut, and we look forward to her illustrious career and her eventual return to Singapore in the near future!
