[FOOD REVIEW] Trendsetter E!IGHT Korean BBQ Restaurant Launches Second Outlet

Run by a pair of Korean foodies in Singapore, E!IGHT Korean BBQ has recently launched its second outlet earlier this month at Shaw Centre. Its first flagship store located at The Central, The Clarke Quay opened in 2013 and became a familiar name soon after where the restaurant is known for offering diners’ exquisite cuts of meat in a chic and stylish setting.

In conjunction with the opening, E!IGHT Korean BBQ has also introduced a new item on the menu: the Big Hog Platewhich is a chunky slab of pork belly served and tossed on the grill and it is a dish that is currently trending among barbeque eateries across Korea.

We were given the opportunity to dine in at their new flagship restaurant at the Shaw Centre where we were served the impressive Big Hog Plate and other mouth-watering items on the menu.

E!IGHT’s Special Steamed Egg
For starters, this dish may appear simple in contrast to the other items on the menu but the time and effort taken to prepare it shows that even simple dishes like these are just equally important as the other more prominent items on the menu.

To ensure its fluffiness of the egg, this dish is delicately prepared using a homemade fish stock and is steamed well enough so that the egg will remain its fluffy texture. It is very aromatic at the same time and also has a light tinge of fish stock to it as well.

Big Hog Plate
This is the highlight item of the menu. The Big Hog Plate does not disappoint avid meat lovers where it features a thick slab of Hungarian Mangalitsa pork belly which is plentiful for a lunch group of 4. Tossed and grilled with thickly sliced onions and king oyster mushrooms, the meat is also lightly seasoned with salt and black pepper to bring out the best flavours.

The exterior of the pork belly looks tough on the outside but at the first bite, it is scrumptiously delicious at the juice oozes out from the meat. The Big Hog Plate is also accompanied with traditional mugwort rice cake.

Chul Pan
This unique item on the menu will certainly be a treat to customers who enjoy grilling and mixing meat and vegetables on a hot pan. The Chul Pan is already pleasing to the eyes where the thinly sliced meats are delicately placed in a pyramid form atop of assorted vegetables such as Chinese cabbage, bean sprouts and spring onions. One has to choose a minimum of two kinds of meat from a range of chicken, beef and pork belly and prices vary depending on what you choose.

Customers are offered steamed white rice as well and you can have the choice to cook it together with the other ingredients. The Chul Pan is also presented with gochujang (Korean red pepper paste)-based sauce, which is added with the ingredients, and stir-fried so as to bring out the sweet and spicy flavors of the dish. Definitely a perfect combination for those who are looking for something satisfying and savory to their taste buds.

4 COLOURS SET

The signature 4 Colours Set is a hot favourite among diners where E!GHT has certainly distinguished themselves from other Korean BBQ outlets by offering four strips of thick pork belly served from a range of four marinades such as wine, original , garlic, herb, curry, miso, red pepper paste or kalbi. This is definitely an item on the menu which you don’t see very often.

Served alongside beansprouts and homemade kimchi, one can also opt for a choice of stew if they prefer. Its fragrance is enough to make one’s mouth water and each strip which is in different marinade varies depending on how strong or light the taste you want it to be.

BIMBIMBAP BINGSU

Korean style dessert is probably one of the best ways to end off a scrumptious Korean BBQ meal to cool it all off. Here at E!GHT, the bingsu is one of a kind where the ingredients are placed in the form of a bimbimbap. Its colors are bright and attractive and as they say, very Instagram worthy. It is definitely a refreshing change from the other bingsus, which are normally topped with only fruits and flavorings.

Remember to head on down to the restaurant if you’re craving for some awesome Korean BBQ & be sure to try out all the awesomeness E!GHT has to offer! 🙂
