As the Hallyu Wave continues to have a strong presence in Singapore, avid local viewers of Korean TV shows now have the option of streaming these programs on their mobile devices with Viu, an over-the-top (OTT) multi-screen video service! In a media launch held on 11 January 2016, Ms. Janice Lee from PCCW Media, Hong Kong’s leading integrated multimedia and entertainment company, gave an official introduction to the streaming service.
Having clinched a landmark pan-regional deal with the top four Korean broadcasters – SBS, KBS, MBC and CJ E&M, Viu has an exclusive window and rights to 95% of their latest telecast dramas, as well as variety shows from South Korea.
Freemium Service with English and Chinese Subtitles
Sick of unstable streaming, downloading your favourite shows on illegal sites or waiting day after day for English/Chinese subtitles?
Singapore fans have access to a freemium service with multi-screen access to the widest range of the latest popular Korean dramas and variety shows, as well as other premium Asian content from the region. English and Chinese subtitles will be provided as fast as 8 hours after its initial telecast in Korea for selected titles.
A Premium tier service is set to be rolled out in the coming months with information about its exclusive features. The Freemium tier will always be available even if Premium tier is utilized.
Download-to-stream capability and expansion to other countries
Viu also offers user-friendly functions such as download-to-stream capability and personalized multi-device synchronisation for a seamless viewing experience.
Launched in Hong Kong and now in Singapore, Viu will be progressively rolled out in Malaysia, Indonesia and India with an expanding premium Asian content catalogue of Korean, Japanese, Chinese titles and more to suit the different markets.

Viu offers an expanding catalogue of around 10,000 hours of premium Asian content comprising around 4,000 hours of the latest current Korean drama and variety shows telecast from SBS, KBS, MBC and CJ E&M.
Top programmes available at launch include popular variety shows, Running Man and The Return of Superman – both crowd favourites with impressive followings in Singapore – as well as newly released dramas Remember, Moorim School, and soon-to-be released Descendants of the Sun starring Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki, Happy Ending Once Again, and Signal.
In line with the rising popularity of shows from cable channels such as tvN and JTBC, Viu will constantly update their app with new shows. Viu also accepts viewer feedback on their Facebook regarding the shows offered.
Avid fans of Korean pop music will also be able to watch their idols performing the latest hits on popular music shows, Music Bank and Inkigayo.
