“La, Lei, Lo, Ma, Mi, Soh“ might be a struggle to understand for most foreigners, but to the “Great” Seungri, it was as easy as “A,B,C“. Returning to Singapore after 2 years for his very first own solo concert themed “The Great Seungri Tour”, fans were in for a concert filled with laughter and entertainment.
Perfect Singlish
Kicking off the concert with the legendary ‘Bang Bang Bang’, V.I.Ps were in for a power-packed night! After the first few songs, Seungri conveyed his love and gratefulness to the crowd at The Star Vista Theatre. Known to be multi-lingual, Seungri spoke in English and occasionally Mandarin without the help of a translator. As if that wasn’t enough, the singer connected with the locals by showcasing his wide vocabulary of Singlish. Throughout the entire concert, Seungri continuously expressed his love for Singapore, frequently repeating “I love Singapore so much”, “No problem lah, no other Korean artist can say it like this. I’m the best.”
If that wasn’t a testament to his love for Singapore, he also went on to talk about his favourite Singapore food – the iconic chilli crab! The singer also joked that his song ‘Strong Baby’ was dedicated to Singapore, changing the word ‘crack’ in his lyrics to ‘crab’. Not only did Seungri managed to perform fantastically for his fans, but he also ensured that everyone had a good time with his continuous jokes.
Getting Upclose and Personal
Despite holding his concert in a smaller venue as compared to his previous concert with the BIGBANG members, Seungri took advantage of that to really mingle and interact with his fans. Spotting several fans on the second level who were overlooking the stage, he pointed up to them and commented that they had “nice seats”. While teaching fans to sing and dance along to ‘GG Be’, he made sure that everyone was doing it. The singer even dedicated a few minutes to getting a man in the front row to dance along to the camera! Talk about attention and fanservice! Seungri also jokingly said that he wouldn’t perform the next song if the guy didn’t dance.
Always a part of BIGBANG
Even though he was here for his solo concert, Seungri definitely didn’t forget about his other BIGBANG members. In fact, he even brought along a piece of them in the form of photo collages! What better way to show your love to your members than comparing them with memes! The singer shared with his fans that he was browsing the Internet for BIGBANG photos and came across a trove of such photos, and had them shown to the fans during the concert.
One photo and anecdote he shared, in particular, had the fans in fits of laughter – previously, member Taeyang had set a photo of Seungri’s that he particularly disliked as his (Taeyang)’s KakaoTalk display photo for 3 months, and every time Seungri wanted to talk to Taeyang, he had to see the photo. However, the most legendary meme that is still as fresh and vivid like sushi would be G-Dragon’s infamous tamago (egg) -inspired hair during MAMA 2013! Hilariously, this photo apparently changed Seungri’s mind about eating tamago sushi from then on, as he said, “I love Japanese sushi. But after I saw this picture, I cannot eat tamagoyaki. I don’t know why just… no tamagoyaki.”
Seungri then ended his visit to the past with a nostalgic medley of BIGBANG songs that had the fans singing along as well, from older bops such as ‘Heaven’ and ‘Lies’, to ‘Good Boy’ and ‘Flower Road’. Even though Seungri tried to end the concert with “In My World”, he missed his cue and had to restart, evoking laughter amongst the audience.
Despite a delay in starting the concert, overall it was a night filled with laughter and quality performances. Seungri’s professionalism showed as he didn’t allow the small crowd to dampen his mood but instead made sure that every fan was taken care of! Even though this was his last concert before his enlistment, he told fans not to worry and that he will not grow fat but instead become more shuai (handsome)! The singer also said, “Finally GD coming out la!” and that V.I.P can look forward to reuniting with the members. As all good things must come to an end, we thank him for his enthusiasm and wish him all the best for his enlistment!
