Despite being a rookie group that debuted in 2017, The Boyz has made a name for themselves in the music industry and are known as one of the up-and-rising boy groups of 2019. On the 16th of June 2019, the twelve boys held their first Asia Fan-Con in Singapore titled [The Castle], in Zepp@BigBox. Their charms and talents were awaiting to be discovered by The Bs like a Pandora’s box.
Starting the concert with their debut song, ‘Boy’, the group returned back to their roots and danced their way into the hearts of their fans. With their utmost synergy and synchronized moves (which is no easy feat, when there is twelve of them), The Boyz’s passion was through the roof and all eyes were on them. Following up with ‘Right Here’, the screams of The Bs were electrifying the concert hall and they could finally take a breather when the boys started introduced themselves one by one.
During the Fan-Con, the idols were given the chance to split up into groups of three, where the segment, “Intro Quiz”, required them to guess a song by listening to just one second of the track. Some songs that they danced exclusively to were EXO’s latest hit, ‘Love Shot’, Black Pink’s sensational anthem, ‘Ddu Du Ddu Du’, as well as BTS’ recent comeback song, ‘Boy In Luv’. Not forgetting a famous game that is habitually played by Korean idols, The Boyz also took part in the “Whisper Challenge”, where they had to guess what their group members were saying by observing the movement of their lips. With these riveting games that kept The Bs entertained during the fancon, the personalities of each member shined through more than anything and we were able to see a different and more playful side of The Boyz.
When it comes to concerts, VCRs are videos that we will often come across when the idol/idols are heading backstage for a costume change. During the VCR played at the Fan-Con, the twelve boys tried their hand in acting, as they got into character by doing a parody of “Sky Castle”, a highly rated Korean drama that exploits the rich and private education of South Korea. By acting as pompous and ambitious kids who were at each other’s neck in order to get to the top of the pyramid, the boys came to the conclusion that they all had the same dream, and all of them could eventually get to the top together as they are doing what they love. With a strong message that encompasses their concert title named [The Castle], we then see The Boyz attempting to break out of their shells in order to deliver a VCR that is stupendous and inspiring.
Throughout the night, the group performed an extensive list of songs, from their cover of EXO’s ‘Call Me Baby’ and Twice’s ‘Cheer Up’, as well as ‘Bloom Bloom’ (the song that led them to their first win at a music show), ‘4Ever’ and ‘No Air’, songs from their own discography.
During the encore segment of the Fan-Con the boys performed ‘Keeper‘ and ‘Clover‘, before saying goodbye to The Bs who were present that night. By performing their best and uniting as one on stage, The Boyz did a fantastic job at charming The Bs, and it would be remembered as an unforgettable and rejuvenating evening for them.
