It has been barely a year since iKON (B.I, Jinhwan, Bobby, Yunhyeong, Junhoe, Donghyuk & Chanwoo)’s official debut, yet the power rookie-dols have already made their mark on the competitive K-Pop scene. Having attained immense global recognition even before debut through reality survival programs ‘WIN: Who is Next’ and ‘Mix & Match’, the boys made their way to Singapore for the first time ever as part of the ‘SHOWTIME’ Asia Tour.
An hour and a half before the show, iKONICs streamed into the Singapore Indoor Stadium for the group’s highly-anticipated show. The crowd waved their KONBAT lightsticks high in the air, creating a brightly burning KONFIRE ocean to welcome the group on stage. When the show finally started and the boys’ silhouettes appeared, the audience cheered loudly to the opening strains of ‘RHYTHM TA (Remix)’!
Next up was one of their newer tracks, ‘Dumb and Dumber’ and one of iKON’s older unofficial tracks, ‘SINOSIJAK’. iKONICs who have been fans since the boys were trainees were especially familiar with this particular track – a fan favourite from the band’s ‘Mix & Match’ days! Members Bobby and B.I rocked the stage with a series of solo performances before coming together for a special duet. Leader B.I shook things up with a solo track ‘BE I’ that defined his past as a lyricist and member Bobby followed with a performance of chart-topping track ‘GO’ from his time as a finalist of rap audition show ‘SHOW ME THE MONEY’. The two boys then combined on stage for an energetic rendition of ‘ANTHEM’, accompanied by the crowd’s rhythmic chants.
After taking a short break backstage, the boys returned back on stage for a medley of songs: ‘Apology’, ‘Wait For Me’ and ‘Airplane’. Overflowing with sentimentality, these tracks gave the fans a chance to compose themselves before the boys launched into a lively cover of BIGBANG’s ‘Bang Bang Bang’ while donned in dramatic outfits. Continuing the special stage segment, the members gave fans a hilarious surprise as they appeared back on stage in pretty pigtails and dressed in schoolgirl outfits! The boys gamely delivered comedic parodies of GFRIEND’s ‘Me Gustas Tu’ and EXID’s ‘Up & Down’, and a lucky fan from the crowd was picked to receive valuable fan service from member Jinhwan!
The next part of their concert included performances of ‘M.U.P’, ‘I Miss You So Bad’, My Type’, and ‘Today’, injecting another dose of excitement into the atmosphere as bright lights and streamers filled the stadium. A short video clip led into iKON’s performance of ‘What’s Wrong?’ before filling the house with nostalgia with ‘Just Another Boy’, a track that the group had performed during their time on survival show ‘WIN: Who is Next’!
As all good things must come to an end, the show soon came to a close as the boys serenaded the fans with ‘Climax’. ‘Climax’ is a song that marks a major milestone in iKON’S past as trainees, and the performance duly stirred the emotions of dedicated fans present. Leader B.I shone onstage as he rapped his heart out on a rising stage platform as iKONICs waved their lightsticks in the air together in support.
After leaving the stage, the group was treated to enthusiastic cheers from the audience before returning for a short encore consisting of ‘Long Time No See’, their newest track ‘#WYD’, a repeat of ‘Dumb and Dumber’, and lastly ‘RHYTHM TA’. The lights soon dimmed as the boys bid the iKONICs goodbye, leaving fans anticipating for much more to come from this rising band in the near future.
