Without losing steam from Day 1, KAMP Singapore 2019 dished out another powerful line up on 10th November with Super Junior, Stray Kids, MOMOLAND, WJSN and Sonnet Son. Despite the blazing heat, fans were seen crowding the Singapore Indoor Stadium as early as 7AM to catch a glimpse of their idols on the red carpet before heading into the concert.
MOMOLAND
Prior to the red carpet, two signed MOMOLAND hoodies were auctioned off for SGD $400 in the blink of an eye, showcasing their popularity among K-pop fans in Singapore. That’s why it was no surprise that the stars behind the chart-topping “Bboom Bboom” were greeted with loud cheers as soon as they graced the red carpet. During their short interview segment, MOMOLAND reminisced their trainee days to present time, and even got teary eyed at some points!
Their hard work and efforts definitely shined in their concert performance, which they aptly opened with the energetic beats of “Bboom Bboom”. Without catching a breath, they easily transitioned into their other hits “Jjan! Koong! Kwang!”, “I’m so Hot” and “Baam”. During their interval MENT, MOMOLAND expressed their happiness to be able to perform for Merries on the day of their third anniversary. From the resounding screams throughout their performance, we are sure that this stage was just as memorable for the fans as well. As the opening act for the second day of KAMP Singapore 2019, the joyful energy MOMOLAND brought to the stage was truly commendable and set the upbeat tone for the rest of the night.
Sonnet Son
Known as the queen of live stages, vocal powerhouse Sonnet Son definitely stole hearts and gained new fans during her visit to KAMP Singapore 2019. Right from the get-go, she wowed the crowd during the red carpet segment by effortlessly belting a snippet of her “Speechless” cover. But this was only the beginning.
Following MOMOLAND’s high energy performance, Sonnet Son kickstarted her stage with a mash-up of old-school favourites: SHINee’s “Sherlock” and Ailee’s “U & I”. Not only did this showcase her musicality, the high notes she hit were a clear sign of her prowess in singing. Her soulful voice was one packed with hard hitting emotion, and the audience was left tearfully surprised by her rendition of SHINee Jonghyun’s “Y Si Fuera Ella”.
During the red carpet, she had hinted an exclusive stage just for KAMP 2019, and it was none other than homegrown singer JJ Lin’s “Practice Love”. She sang the song in its entirety in Mandarin, and it was definitely a song tailored to the test of the local crowd. Ending off her set list was her recent release “I’m Not a Warrior” that somehow sounded even greater live!
Despite being the only soloist on Day 2, her stage presence and interaction with the crowd was just as amazing as the rest of the artists present.
WJSN
Dressed in coordinated all-white outfits, WJSN were positively shining as they walked down the red carpet. With a comeback just around the corner, they teased that their latest album is so good, that was the only thing all members were listening to on the flight to Singapore. Full of robust energy, they also interacted with the crowd cutely with some Mandarin phrases such as “Did you miss us?” and “I love you!”
This energy also translated into their performance, which they jump started with the catchy “Boogie Up” and a crowd favourite “Save Me, Save You”. Their moves were perfectly in sync and was a marvel to wonder at. A short talking segment revealed to Ujungs that they woke up especially early to buy some kaya jam for themselves!
Their final two tracks “I Wish” and “La La Love You” were a treat for fans, with members bounding back and forth the stages while interacting with the crowd. Many Ujungs were treated to eye contact moments that made them squeal, and it was simply a joy to see WJSN having fun on the stage.
Stray Kids
Highly anticipated since their unprecedented inclusion into the Day 2 lineup, KAMP Singapore 2019 is Stray Kids’ first appearance in Singapore – and they did not disappoint. Strapped into all-black outfits and harnesses, the group looked dashing as they cross the red carpet. With multiple Stray Kids signs peppering the barricade, it was no surprise that Stay’s fervent screams were resounding.
During their short interview segment, Felix shared that the group would love to collaborate with American rapper Kendrick Lamar. We are pretty sure that such a collab would rock the music world, but that could just be our bias speaking.
Despite the recent departure of Woojin, we are proud of Stray Kids for putting up a stellar performance that showcased their professionalism. Bursting onto stage with their first song, “Hellevator”, the crowd did not hold back from professing their love for this stage. Without missing a beat, they moved on to “Side Effects”, an electronic masterpiece with an interesting choreography to boot. With the longest setlist for KAMP Singapore 2019, they performed a list of hard-hitting tracks back-to-back including “District 9”, “Boxer”, “Double Knot” and “Victory Song”. “Get Cool” was also part of the lineup and gave Stays a more “lovely” side to Stray Kids amidst the tough concept songs.
Closing off their segment was “MIROH”, and this stage cemented Stray Kids as solid performers with crisp dance moves and stable vocals. Throughout their set, Stays were given opportunities to interact with Stray Kids as they maneuvered across the stage. Each member conscientiously went to every end of the stage and trust us when we say that they look even better up close.
Super Junior
K-pop veterans Super Junior are legends, and everyone at KAMP Singapore 2019 knew it. Last to grace the red carpet, fans were in uproar when the members stepped out of the cars. Dressed in tailored suits and intricate prints, their captivating presence was only accentuated by their fun-loving personalities during the red carpet interview. After having chili crab in Singapore, they said they had “Super Crab Energy” (their words, not mine!) to perform their song “Super Clap”.
To the excitement of E.L.Fs, Super Junior also hinted that a new album is in the works although they have yet to announce when we can expect it. The most memorable of this red carpet appearance would be Donghae, who walked down alongside fans with his phone and captured videos of E.L.Fs. He almost seemed like a vlogger!
Super Junior carried over their fun personalities to the concert stage, where they started off with their latest comeback, “Super Clap”. The audience lit up in a sea of blue, waving their Super Bongs to the beat of the catchy tune. From there, the group aptly performed “Black Suit” in their black suits and showcased their charms that E.L.Fs have dearly missed in the enlistment years.
During their interval talk session, each member warmly introduced themselves to the crowd despite having been here months before. For instance, Shindong prepared a short letter in English for E.L.Fs, while Donghae used his Taiwan acting experience to speak in Mandarin to the crowd. You could tell their years of industry experience made them comfortable on stage, and they knew how to hype up the fans for their upcoming set which included all-time Super Junior classics: “Sorry Sorry”, “Bonamana” and “Mr Simple”. Their performances truly showcased how timeless their tracks are among K-pop lovers, regardless of whether they were Gen 2 stans or not.
Slot in between these major group performances was Yesung’s solo, “Pink Magic”, where he serenaded the crowd with his honey vocals. Unit group D&E also made a special old-school appearance with “Danger”, enrapturing fans with their spell-binding choreography.
