The Kings of K-pop, Super Junior, returned to Singapore after three years with their ninth instalment of Super Show! Bringing Super Show 9 : Road to Singapore with their series of hit songs both old and new, members Lee Teuk, Yesung, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook and Kyuhyun gave their best for Singapore ELF who have been waiting to spend the day with them once again. Let’s recap the beautiful afternoon with Super Junior!
Kings of K-pop
Singapore ELF got ready as early as 9am in the morning to finally reunite with their favourite boy group after a long three-year wait due to the pandemic. The show started with a VCR followed by Burn The Floor as Super Junior danced with hand-held lights. The screams were deafening as the seats to the concert were almost sold out, proving themselves to be the Kings of K-pop after 17 years in the industry.
To show that they are the true veterans, Super Junior continued with a series of songs non-stop which brought out the highest energy of the crowd. While the first set of songs were mainly from their newer albums, ELF were extremely excited to also hear a classic from 11 years ago, Mr Simple.
Versatile and Professional
As Super Junior caught their breaths with their first segment of introduction, they brought on their comedic side and impressed the crowd by speaking in English and Mandarin. It was through this segment that ELF were once again reminded that Super Junior are versatile artistes, being able to control the audience while performing, and also bringing laughs to their fans as they joked while talking. Super Junior-M members Donghae and Siwon also spoke in fluent Mandarin, and Kyuhyun even spoke in Singlish, greeting fans with “Hosehbo?! (How have you been?!) We so long time never meet liao!” All of the members appeared really happy to be back in Singapore and promised to give their all for the rest of the concert.
After greeting their fans, Super Junior returned on stage with sub-unit K.R.Y performing I Can’t, their soothing voices melting everyone. The rest of the members then came back on stage to sing Believe, a song from their debut album in 2005, which they said was chosen just for Singapore ELF. It represented Super Junior and ELF’s belief in each other, which gave them the opportunity to meet once again. In return, ELF showed their unwavering support with a fan event, as everyone held up a banner with the words “I’ll hug you warmly and be your light” printed when Super Junior sat down and serenaded the audience with My Wish.
The concert was just getting started as Super Junior transformed into the Gods of Music and sung SPY, Rokuko and MAMACITA opera-style. After which, they put on denim and rock outfits and rocked to House Party, Devil, MANGO, Black Suit and all-time favourites Sorry Sorry and Bonamana.
Walkin’ the Road of Happiness
ELF could not bear to say goodbye as they knew the concert was coming to a close when Super Junior returned for their encore stage, singing More Days With You, Walkin’ and HAPPINESS. As they bade their goodbyes, Super Junior appeared emotional, sharing their worries that they might not be able to maintain the energy level as the members appeared exhausted. However, they promised to keep trying their best and to return with a greater show soon. They thanked ELF once again for getting through the good and bad times with them, and for always being a pillar of support for them.
