Kim Ye Rim (Red Velvet Yeri) and actress Lee Eun Saem were in Singapore to promote their latest tvN drama Cheongdam International High School. The pair fielded questions from the media at the press conference on Friday, June 23.
Cheongdam International High School is a mystery thriller drama that follows Kim Hye In (played by Lee Eun Saem) and Baek Je Na (played by Kim Ye Rim) and their power struggle in a prestigious high school.
Eun Saem said the biggest challenge when filming the drama was the cold, since they filmed it during winter. In order to deal with the cold, she used lots of heat packs all over her body to keep warm.
Her co-star Ye Rim said that for her, having to film in the wee hours of the night was the most challenging. She explained that her character Baek Je Na is a rich girl who frequents high-end restaurants and shops, and it was difficult to film in those locations during the day hence they only filmed during off-peak hours.
The two also shared that they grew closer after they filmed the drama.
“We relied on each other a lot while filming the drama,” Ye Rim said in English. She added that the pair met up after work to have meals and they recently took photos at a photobooth.
“I always have a fun time whenever I hang out with her.”
When asked what sort of memories and experiences they drew from their own high school student years to play their roles, Eun Saem shared that her character Kim Hye In is not a role from which she can rely on her own experiences to act. In order to act well, she mostly used her imagination to carry out the character.
Meanwhile, Ye Rim said she tried to remember the experience of wearing her high school uniform to play Je Na.
What future roles can we expect from both Eun Saem and Ye Rim?
Ye Rim said she’s not sure yet, but she’d like to “challenge various characters and show different sides of (her) acting”.
“These days I really enjoy watching fantasy genre (shows) so one day, I’d really like to try.”
Eun Saem on the other hand, said she enjoys action shows so she’d love to play an athlete.
“On the flip side, I’d also really like to try filming a sweet romance drama. I want to try it all.”
We hope the two actresses get the chance to land the roles that they want to challenge!
