[SINGAPORE] Hotel Del Luna’s Yeo Jin Goo Resumes Hotelier Duties in Singapore

Our favourite supernatural hotelier from hit fantasy horror romance drama ‘Hotel Del Luna’ recently paid a visit to one of Singapore’s luxurious hotels, The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore, on 23 September 2019 – perhaps to retrieve a special, supernatural guest?

Following the cast’s celebratory trip to Bangkok, Yeo Jin Goo, playing Gu Chansung in the drama, resumed duties and was in town to promote the show coming up on its finale in Asia on 2 October, currently airing on StarHub TV tvN channel.

Aside from sharing his experience while shooting the drama and some details on his personal life, the lead actor also talked about what he wants to check out in Singapore – chilli crab, of course! Jin Goo laughingly shared that it was something he could not miss while he was in Singapore, and that he would be heading for it right after his schedule for the day was over. He also mentioned that he had a lot of fun in Clarke Quay the last time he was here in Singapore two years ago, but he was open to suggestions to new places.

When asked why he decided to take up the drama ‘Hotel Del Luna’, Jin Goo said that he had his own worries prior to taking up the role, and he thought that it might be something too new to viewers. However, as he read the script, one line in particular stood out to him – “Aren’t you excited to get to know a secret world no one else knows about?” – and that it really intrigued him. He also chose the hotel CEO Jang Manwol (played by singer IU) as the character in ‘Hotel Del Luna’ that he would want to live as for a day, but further explained that he would not want to be exactly like her, just her freedom in being able to do what she wants and when she likes it.

Having appeared in 3 different dramas already this year, Jin Goo talked about the biggest difference between preparing for a drama and a movie. He revealed that it was important to be adaptive and proactive when preparing for a drama, as the entire script and plot may not be given to the cast at the start, and as the series progresses, there may be changes which the cast would need to adapt to. On the other hand, the full script and plot for a movie is usually given to the cast from the get-go, so there is time for them to do research and plan how they would deliver their roles.

The young actor was also asked why he thought ‘Hotel Del Luna’ was such a success across Asia, and he shared his views that it was mainly due to two points. The first was that there were two aspects to the plot, the present life and the afterlife, which stretched up to 1300 years before the present, hence having a fantasy element in it. The second was that each character had an interesting background story. The host then joked that she thought he would say it was due to his good looks, sending the audience into peals of laughter!

One of the questions that fans smitten by his ‘Hotel Del Luna’ character were dying to find out the answer to was whether Jin Goo’s real life personality is any similar to Goo Chansung. The charming actor revealed that unlike his ‘elite hotelier’ character, he is not actually afraid of ghosts or the supernatural, but he gets frightened by things that appear suddenly – like bugs! Goo Chansung was always described as ‘cowardly’ because he was afraid of ghosts, we cannot decide if the same term still applies to Jin Goo!

The audience also had the opportunity to see his acting first hand when Jin Goo was tasked with the mission to act out three scenarios as Goo Chansung on the spot. When he had to sell a yacht to the audience at triple the price – a simple “Please buy it” and an endearing smile had fans yelling back “Sold!”.

Yeo Jin Goo’s charming and humorous side shone throughout the press conference, and his maturity despite his young age was evident in his answers. If we were already in love with the likeable actor from ‘Hotel Del Luna’, meeting him just made us fall in love with him even more!
