[SINGAPORE] Final Stop of Asian Tour a ‘Time of Healing’ for Kim Seon Ho

Kim Seon Ho wrapped up his Asian fanmeeting tour, ‘ONE, TWO, THREE, SMILE’, with an unforgettable night in Singapore on September 15.

Fans from across the region flocked to The Star Theatre to catch a glimpse of the South Korean actor, of Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha (2021) and Start-Up (2020) fame, and to stand a chance to interact with the actor up close.

Catching up with Seonho

After opening the evening with a performance of Paul Kim’s Every Day, Every Moment, Seonho sat down for an interview segment to help fans get to know the actor better.

We learnt that the actor recently made his film debut in the thriller film The Childe (2023), which had been screened in local cinemas earlier this year. “I love you lah,” he quipped in Singlish, in response to fans’ confirmation that they have caught the movie in cinemas.

The actor discussed his aspirations for future roles: “I’ve tried my hand at diverse genres in the past,” the actor said. “I’d like to take up the role of an ordinary person living an ordinary life.”

Seonho also dished on a couple of things he enjoyed about Singapore, which he described to be ‘fairytale-like’ and ‘more beautiful than [he] had imagined’. The actor shared that he had visited East Coast Park near his hotel the morning of the fanmeeting and enjoyed a peaceful stroll while taking in the scenery.

Like many other Korean celebrities, his favourite Singaporean delicacy is chili crab, among others like hokkien mee, satay, and jerky. Surprisingly, the actor admitted his love for durian, the tropical fruit infamous for its pungent smell. “I thought I wouldn’t be able to eat durian, but it’s delicious.”

Unfettered fun with fans

What’s the point of a fanmeeting without fans getting up close and personal with the protagonist? Fans were in for a treat because there were plenty of opportunities for them to share the stage with Seonho and bring home autographed goodies, such as signed Polaroids and a hand-designed cap.

For the drama reenactment segment of the fanmeet, three lucky fans transformed into Seonho’s leading ladies, recreating iconic scenes from Start-Up, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, and 100 Days My Prince (2018). The fan that participated in the latter even managed to snap a selfie with Seonho on stage (although it wasn’t typically allowed). Seonho’s agility was also put to the test in a game of charades and carnival-style games alongside fans.

Despite the fanmeet being held in Singapore, more than half the theatre erupted in cheers when the emcee asked if there were foreign fans among the audience. Seonho seemed to recognise a handful of dedicated fans who attended previous fanmeets in different cities. “There are familiar faces among the audience today that I’m pretending not to recognise,” the actor shared, brandishing a dimpled smile. “But when I started singing, I made eye contact with some of you and instinctively wanted to say hi.”

The actor really treats fans like old friends — in one spontaneous encounter, a fan who had passionately responded to Seonho at the top of her voice throughout the fanmeet was summoned to the front by Seonho, who complimented her good Korean skills, gave her a high-five, and made her promise to protect her vocal cords. Naturally, the actor caught the same fan hilariously breaking her promise shortly after.

A finale of mixed emotions

Kim Seonho ended the evening with Reason, his only officially released solo song. The actor delivered a commendable vocal performance with minimal backing vocals, so fans could hear his singing voice crystal clear. But it was evident he still lacked stage experience as a singer, as the gusts of confetti released toward the end of the song caused the actor to collapse to the ground in fits of giggles. Determined to put up an uninterrupted performance, the actor himself called for an encore of the song.

As the end of the fanmeet approached, it was the fans’ turn to catch Seonho by surprise: the teary-eyed actor watched on as a video montage of the actor’s past roles and variety show personas along with messages of support from Singapore fans played on the displays, just as he was getting ready for a photo with the audience. The gesture was extra meaningful to the actor, who had suffered a tumultuous career year, and he sincerely thanked fans who had never left his side.

“I know that my fanmeets were not all sold out, but it helps me appreciate every last person in the audience,” the actor said. “It makes every person here today precious.”
