On September 14 2019, Tablo, DJ Tukutz and Mithra Jin were finally back with their latest album for ‘2019 EPIK HIGH in Singapore’ as their last tour stop in Singapore! As they made their grand entrance, they kicked off the stage with their newest song “In Seoul” which received great enthusiasm from the crowd. After an extraordinary opening with “Epikally” dramatic introductions of themselves, the trio continued on with songs such as “No Thankxxx” and “Burj Khalifa” which livened up everyone in the crowd. Everyone was singing along with their hands up in the air.
In between songs, Tablo was talking about their album title “sleepless in” and quoted “If you came here today from a place of stress, a place of worries, a place of heartbreak, we will take that all away tonight”. For this album, it was once mentioned by Tablo that the album was intentionally made a little over 20 minutes long. He explained that doctors believe that if humans take longer than 20 minutes to fall asleep, it is an indication that your body is telling you something. Using lullaby as the last track in the album, it then loops back into the song “sleepless” if listeners are still listening.
Epik High then continued the flow of the concert with songs namely “Eternal Sunshine” and “Love Love Love” that High Skool were all loving. During a short interval, Tablo asked his members for their opinion of Singapore and they mentioned Singapore being their favourite country. DJ Tukutz said “Singapore is the hottest city in the world” and had described Singapore as the “짱 – Jjang” (meaning – the best) city in the world.
Of course being a group with great humour, without any ill-intention, Tablo took the opportunity to mistranslate what Mithra Jin wanted to say to Singapore which left the High Skools laughing away! Everyone loved their interaction and realness on stage which definitely never fails to disappoint.
Up next was a song specially added to the set list as requested from a Singaporean High Skool, a well-known song – “1분1초 (1 Minute,1 Second)“. It followed along with the introduction of “Kill This Love” by Tablo which he mentioned “Love is something that nothing can kill”. It was a stage where everybody in the venue was jumping along together, making it interactive between both Epik High and High Skool.
It was nearing the end of the concert when suddenly the members pulled out a T-shirt and signed it on stage which had “We love Singapore” on it. It was a thrilling moment when the shirt was shot out in to the audience, with great cheers for the extremely lucky High Skool! Continuing that, they performed a song written and dedicated to fans called “Fan”, included in “Remapping the Human Soul” album.
As the song ended and they proceeded backstage, fans started shouting “encore, encore” till Epik High made a return back on stage with “Born Hater”. During the song, DJ Tukutz pointed at Tablo at the phrase “stupid” in the song which then Tablo realised and poured water on DJ Tukutz.
We had such a blast at the “Epik” concert with Epik High as the concert then ended with “Don’t Hate Me” with a promise from Tablo for their return to Singapore next year!
