[SINGAPORE] CNBLUE Showcases Their Rockstar Identity At Singapore Concert

South Korean rock band CNBLUE made their grand return to Singapore after 7 years for their 2024 CNBLUE LIVE ‘CNBLUENTITY’ IN SINGAPORE concert on April 27, 2024. The Singapore Indoor Stadium was filled with electric blue lights brought out by BOICEs (CNBLUE’s fandom name) as frontman Jung Yong Hwa, drummer Kang Min Hyuk and bassist Lee Jung Shin rocked out with familiar tunes as well as some newer tracks which perfectly encapsulated their true rockstar identities crafted since their debut in 2010.

CNBLUE is Back in Singapore!

There was a sense of subdued excitement that was felt before the concert as this was a long time coming for the Singapore BOICEs to finally be able to meet CNBLUE in person after their last visit back in 2017. CNBLUE definitely understood the assignment as they kicked off the concert to high gear with their debut song Loner, followed up by a string of their hit tracks Love, Intuition, and Hey You as the fans sing along to the tunes enthusiastically.

The CNBLUE members wasted no time in using Singlish terms such as Okay lah”, and Steady lahduring their introduction to the fans. Yong Hwa mentioned that he missed Singapore so much and urged the fans to have fun throughout the night. Jung Shin said that they ate Singapore’s chilli crab and pepper crab the moment they landed, which prompted Yong Hwa to ask whether the members are team “chilli crab” or team “pepper crab”. Jung Shin and Min Hyuk opted for pepper crab, while Yong Hwa mentioned that he liked both, drawing laughter from the audience.

With a strum of the acoustic guitar, CNBLUE transitioned smoothly to Imagine and Love Light, before getting the fans grooving with You’re So Fine. The stadium was filled with lovey dovey vibes all around as Yong Hwa occasionally included the word Singapore in the song lyrics, which got the fans cheering.

CNBLUE: Master of Showmanship

In between the intense performances, CNBLUE was also equally as entertaining and engaging during intermission. Jung Shin brought up the blue dress code that they set for the concert and did an impromptu check among his bandmates to see if they had any blue items on them. This caused them to dish out some TMI (too much information), triggering laughter and cheers from the fans. They even had a rock-paper-scissors match to see who would be wearing a moustache during the Love Cut performance. Jung Shin lost the match, so they performed the song with him wearing the moustache. They followed that up with 99%, Lady and Coffee Shop, which got the crowd on their feet as they performed these tracks.

CNBLUE’s deep discography was definitely showcased during the concert as they performed Time Capsule, Winter Again, and Till Then, evoking the feeling of melancholia among the fans and proving that they have more than just upbeat and powerful tracks, before getting the hype back up with Hide and Seek and Cinderella.

Rockstar Energy on Lock

As the concert went on, Yong Hwa mentioned that “this was just the beginning” and he asked all the fans to stand up and rock on as CNBLUE performed their heavier tracks In My Head, I’m Sorry, and Radio, before ending their initial set with another hit track, Between Us. Their true rockstar energy was on full display here as Yong Hwa jumped around every corner of the stage and hyping the fans until the end, and not to mention the long outro for these tracks which showcased all of their respective skills.

The fans wanted more as they screamed in hopes for an encore performance, and soon enough, CNBLUE returned onto the stage for an encore. Yong Hwa mentioned that they have been performing for the past 15 years, but every time they were on the stage, they stayed young forever, which then segued nicely to them performing Young Forever. Prior to performing Can’t Stop, Yong Hwa joked that they wrote the song with Singapore in mind with the amount of “lah” in the chorus of the song. They then performed Then, Now and Forever before taking a photo with the fans and exiting the stage.

After what seemed like the end of the concert, the crowd screamed yet again for another encore performance, and their wish was granted as CNBLUE returned to the stage for another encore performance. They performed the fan favourite track Love Girl, followed by another round of You’re So Fine, where Yong Hwa jumped down the stage and interacted with the audience at the standing area, and another round of Love, where he got the fans to sing along the post-chorus chant which he happily recorded on his phone.

All good things must come to an end, and after 3.5 hours of rocking fun and lots of confetti drop, the concert finally came to an end as CNBLUE moved around the stage and bowed to the crowd to express their gratitude for supporting them. It was a night to remember indeed and we can’t wait to see CNBLUE again here in Singapore!
