[SINGAPORE] ASEAN eSports Competition Hyperplay Integrates Music With Stages From The Sam Willows & CL

Hyperplay, the first ASEAN League of Legends competition integrating the two biggest cultural pillars of this generation – eSports and music – was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 4-5 August. The MTV Spotlight, which shared the stage with the tournament, featured a stellar line-up of The Sam Willows, CL, Slot Machine, Afgan, Alessia Cara and Nick Jonas!

After an intense semi-finals match between Team Malaysia and Team Philippines, which ended with Team Malaysia coming out top, homegrown group The Sam Willows kicked off the opening act, with cuts from their past and present albums such as “All Time High”, “Keep Me Jealous” and “Papa Money”.

Continuing on with the eSports competition, Team Singapore took up Team Vietnam in the next round of semi-finals, with Team Vietnam securing their win in two action-packed battles.

As the eSports tournament ended for the day, it was clear that there was a mounting excitement among the crowd to see CL, the former leader of 2NE1, who would be closing off the thrilling first day of the event.

And sure enough, the crowd went wild when she broke out onto stage, opening with hip-hop track “The Baddest Female”! For her first solo performance in Singapore, she prepared an exclusive live rendition of “Ain’t No Better Feeling” for fans, along with the message: “You know sometimes, people tell you how to live your life, but you just need to roll your eyes, shake it off and walk away.”

Living up to her commanding and intense presence, CL dominated the stage with fire during her electrifying 13-track set, comprising a mixture of dance and hip hop numbers! She showcased her ability to hype up the crowd as she had everyone jumping to “Gotta Be You”. Alongside solo songs “Lifted” and “Hello B**tches”, fans were also enthusiastically doing the fanchants to nostalgic 2NE1 hits such as “Come Back Home” and “Can’t Nobody”.

During her short interaction with fans in between songs, CL expressed that, “Honestly, being on stage performing and making people happy or feel some type of way is my favourite thing to do. So this is a great day for me cause I can do this for you guys.” The rapper also thanked her fans, and said that she hoped to be back soon. It was definitely a great day for Blackjacks and GZBs too, as CL closed off her short but exhilarating performance with “I Am The Best”!
