AMPERS&ONE was in town on 10 January for the first overseas stop of ‘&Dear. My First_’, the seven-piece boy group’s maiden fanmeeting tour.
In a blend of music, dance, and games, the seven members, FNC Entertainment’s latest idol group venture, proved that they have plenty to offer as budding performers.
POV: AMPERS&ONE are your classmates
Sporting school jackets and ties, the members looked smart and personable for the classmate-themed fanmeeting. The first half of the setlist presented the group’s bubblier, lighter tracks, Sheesh, Over The Moon, and He + She = We.
What stood out to us was the group’s outstanding height — all members are at least 180 centimetres tall, which added a striking visual impact to their sharp choreography.
They followed up with propelling energy for their debut track On And On, Calling You Back, and a cover of 女孩 by WeiBird, which ended with an adorable group hug.
The members also sat down for a game of charades hosted by interpreter and emcee April (who has her own fandom at this point), guessing Singapore-related terms such as chilli crab and Merlion Park.
Mackiah shared the group’s disappointment in missing the chilli crab this time, as they were flying to the next stop of their tour the very next day.
They’ve done—and excelled at—their homework
It hasn’t been long since AMPERS&ONE’s 2023 debut, so it is natural that they beef up their modest discography with some covers of the latest K-pop hits.
Kamden, Jihoo, Seungmo, and Mackiah revealed their edgy, rebellious side with a performance of TXT’s Good Boy Gone Bad. In contrast, Brian, Kyrell, and Siyun took the cute route with Plot Twist by TWS.
The seven members then donned black leather biker jackets for the K-pop classic, Blood Sweat & Tears by BTS, followed by original tracks Whip It and Broken Heart. We were once again taken aback by the precision of their dance moves, especially the perfectly synced tuck jumps in the BTS cover.
Speaking of tuck jumps, the members were given another chance to show off their athleticism in a basketball game, where they had to score to choose the kind of dance challenge to attempt.
Maybe it is because they are all very tall, but save for Kyrell, all scored easily and danced to songs like Sticky by KISS OF LIFE, NEMONEMO by YENA, BOOM BOOM BASS by RIIZE, Guilty by TAEMIN, and Baggy Jeans by NCT U. Upon failing to shoot, Kyrell expressed his dismay in Singlish (“Alamak!”) and was made to do aegyo to the tune of Maru is a Puppy by HAEWON of NMIXX.
Quiz time
Before the fanmeeting, fans left post-its with questions for the members on a board, which was brought onto stage for members to pick one each and address.
“Five Brians or five-year-old Brian?” a post-it read, to which Brian stated his preference for five Brians. The note picked by Kamden requested a 2025 remake of ‘Jelly Noona’, a reference to the mission song Jelly Pop of Boys Planet, a survival show he was a contestant on. Kamden gladly acceded.
Siyun, whose birthday was just two days before the Singapore fanmeeting, picked a note that asked him if he had a gift he wanted to receive. A couple of fans shouted “a car!”, which piqued Seungmo’s interest (“Car, me please.”), but Siyun said that words of encouragement were all he needed.
To wrap up with some fan love, Kyrell said, “We didn’t get to eat chilli crab, but we got to see you guys, so that doesn’t matter.” Seungmo added, “Meeting you all is our top priority.”
We hope that AMPERS&ONE continues to forge their identity as a group and return even stronger.
