The last time the seven members of GOT7 stepped foot in Singapore was a little more than two years ago for their first ever world tour aptly titled ‘FLY’ in a nod to their ‘Flight Log’ album trilogy. Fast forward to 4 August 2018, the septet returned to our island for their ‘EYES ON YOUR’ World Tour!
It was certainly evident that their presence here in Singapore was very much missed. The 4,500-strong crowd lapped up every second of their approximately 3 hour show and were enthusiastic right to the very end, screaming impressive fanchants for their title songs! The members comprising JB, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam and Yugyeom certainly worked the stage and entertained everyone in the crowd.
Performing hits such as “Hard Carry”, “You Are” and of course their latest title track “Look”, GOT7 showed off great choreography and stunning vocals. They also proved just how fantastic their fan-service was by interacting with fans on all sides of the stage during other songs such as “Beggin’ On My Knees”, “Firework” and “Teenager”.
The middle section of the concert was also creatively presented by alternating between VCRs and short performances of songs to engage fans in a simple yet sweet storyline of a lover trying his best to solve a relationship problem with his girlfriend. Fans were hooked on the VCRs and responded accordingly with oohs and aaahs whenever a situation occurred in the plotline.
Narrated by Jinyoung, the VCRs set the mood really well for the segment of the concert. The songs performed fit in nicely for the segment and brought out the storyline well. From the angsty “If You Do” about an unresponsive lover before singing about missing their partner’s “Face” to finishing off with saying they will “Never Ever” let her go, it was apparent that a lot of effort was put into selecting the songs and giving fans something different from a typical concert setting.
GOT7 also broke away from the usual group performances to perform in units. Jinyoung and BamBam’s elaborate “King” stage had the duo highlighting their chemistry together; JB, Mark and Youngjae put up a mellow and moody performance with “Think About It”; Yugyeom and Jackson both had a dance and rap solo respectively before joining forces for “Phoenix”.
One of the most touching parts of the concert was most certainly the fan project event planned by IGOT7s for the boys. A fanmade VCR was played in the midst of their final ments which surprised the boys pleasantly! What made it even more special was fans singing along softly to “Thank You”, which was used in the VCR as background music. GOT7 also demonstrated how much they loved their fans by interacting with the crowd and giving tons of fan-service to anyone who managed to catch their attention. Perhaps one of the more endearing ways they gave back to the fans was also speaking in English throughout a majority of the show.
As the concert drew to a close, the seven boys promised Singapore IGOT7s that they would return with a new album soon. Although they ended their ments expressing regrets that they could not spend more time with fans, the crowd certainly showed they did not mind, and even cheered at the news of new music! We’re looking forward to it too! 😀
We would like to thank One Production for the media invite, and to GOT7 for a show that had all Singapore IGOT7’s eyes on them!
