After its successful precedence last year, StarHub Night of Stars was back with its second iteration held successfully on 24 November 2019. The high-profile evening was hosted at the Marina Bay Sands Theatre and 18 renowned regional artistes were invited to grace the starry night with their presence. South Korean representatives; K-Pop super rookie group AB6IX, actors Sung Hoon, Kim Jae Wook, and actress Park Min Young were invited to attend the glitzy evening as well.
Prior to the awards ceremony, the Green Carpet event was held at the Digital Light Canvas at The Shoppes. The area around the Digital Light Canvas was brimming with enthusiastic fans who were there hoping to catch a glimpse of their favourite celebrities! The electrifying atmosphere could be felt as fans were spotted waving slogans, banners, and even handmade placards to show their support to their favourite celebrities! Regional artistes such as Ali Lee, Natalie Tong, Kenneth Ma, Fred Cheng, Tien Hsin, James Wen, Yoga Lin, and industry veterans Fung Bo Bo and Nancy Sit made an appearance on the Green Carpet and were cheered on loudly by dedicated fans.
Fuelled by the fervent cheers of their fans, many celebrities were generous in their fanservice – taking time to wave and interact with their fans. Sung Hoon even took a few selfies with his fans!
To start off the evening, the audience was treated to a medley of drama OSTs, including soundtracks from ‘Hotel del Luna’, ‘He is Psychometric’, ‘Sky Castle’, and ‘Her Private Life’ performed by the talented songstress, Joanna Dong.
Singer-actor Ong Seong Wu was awarded the 2019 StarHub Most Promising Actor Award for his acting debut in ‘At Eighteen’ for the stellar acting skills that he showcased in the drama! Crowd favourite, ‘Running Man’ was awarded the 2019 StarHub Favourite Variety Show Award for bringing laugher and entertainment to viewers of the show. GOT7 Park Jinyoung took home the 2019 StarHub Favourite Korean Male Character Award for his captivating performance in ‘He is Psychometric’ through his portrayal of Lee Ahn. Although the abovementioned award winners were not present at the ceremony, they appeared on the big screen with their thank-you speeches, bringing a pleasant surprise to fans who were present at the ceremony.
With his down to earth and loveable personality, ‘I Live Alone’ star Sung Hoon, was awarded the 2019 StarHub Dazzling Star Award. His appearance on the popular reality show gave fans an unfiltered look into the actor’s personal life and captivated many fans with his one-of-a-kind personality. During his thank you speech, Sung Hoon even took a moment to thank the members of the Rainbow Club as well as ‘I Live Alone’ for all the opportunities they had given him.
The winner of the 2019 StarHub Rising Star Award was none other than AB6IX. Members Lim Youngmin, Jeon Woong, Kim Donghyun and Lee Daehwi dazzled the crowd with their debut song ‘BREATHE’, and latest title track ‘Blind For Love’, showing the audience exactly why they deserved the award. ABNEWs in the audience cheered loudly to show their support for the boys as they delivered amazing vocals and sleek dance moves. Unfortunately, Park Woojin was unable to attend the award show due to a leg injury but his members flawlessly covered his parts in the songs and gave a stellar performance!
As always, the best is always saved for the last. The biggest awards for the night, the 2019 StarHub Best Male and Female Asian Star Award was presented to Kim Jae Wook and Park Min Young respectively. The ‘Her Private Life’ stars, through the characters Deok Mi and Ryan Gold, had showcased an incredible on-screen chemistry, capturing the hearts of many fans and viewers of the drama. We are definitely looking forward to seeing more of their exceptional acting skills in their future works!
