[PHILIPPINES] TAN Talks About Their New Album, How the Philippines Feels Like Home, and More at Press Conference

Fourth-generation South Korean boy group TAN is back in the Philippines to promote their new album and to perform at several mall shows. Before starting their activities, they held a press conference on September 1, 2023 at the Joy~Nostalg Hotel in Pasig City, Metro Manila.

This marks TAN’s second visit to the Philippines, following their FIRST STEP: To All Nations Philippine Promotion Tour in November 2022.

The project boy group, managed by Think Entertainment, was formed through MBC‘s survival audition programme called Extreme Debut: Wild Idol (2021). Out of 45 contestants, only seven eventually debuted in TAN: Changsun, Hyeonyeop, Jaejun, Jiseong, Jooan, Sunghyuk, and Taehoon.

In July 2023, TAN officially signed with Universal Records Philippines to handle their activities within the country.

During the press conference, the group expressed their excitement about reuniting with their Filipino fans. “It feels like I’m back home,” said Jaejun. The members also mentioned that the signature Filipino hospitality made them feel very welcome in Manila.

TAN’s group name stands for ‘To All Nations‘, signifying their aim to showcase their music not only in South Korea but also worldwide. Taehoon added, “Being one of the most significant nations in K-Pop, we want to establish our presence here in the Philippines and in other nations as well.”

Hyeonyeop regrettably couldn’t participate during their last visit due to a foot injury. However, now that they’ve returned, he expressed his determination to give his best performance. Jaejun also expressed interest in collaborating with various Filipino artists if the opportunity arises.

Just last month, TAN released their third mini-album, TAN MADE, featuring the lead single Heartbeat. The group members shared that they were directly involved in composing and writing the lyrics for this album. Through this release, the boys aimed to convey and promote self-love, both for themselves and their dedicated fans. The members also shared that some of their favorite songs in the album include the title track, New Days, and Artificial Heart.

When asked about the most significant lesson they learned from the survival show they participated in and how it has helped them as idols so far, Hyeonyeop said, “From the survival show, one of the most important lessons we learned is to never give up and to keep pursuing something, because persistence might lead to success.”

During their visit, TAN expressed their interest in trying Filipino cuisine and desserts, including dishes like crispy pata, halo-halo, and sinigang. “Some foreigners may not like sinigang, but I love it,” said Jiseong.

The members also expressed their love for the Filipino fast food chain, Jollibee. Jaehoon even received a Jollibee-themed shirt and pants for his birthday during their last visit. “We would love to do a Jollibee advertisement,” Jaejun added.

The group also shared some fun Tagalog phrases they’ve learned, such as “Crush mo ba ako?” (“Do you have a crush on me?”) and “Bakit malungkot ang beshy ko?” (“Why is my bestie sad?”), with the latter referencing a popular meme among Filipino netizens.

TAN is set to perform on the following dates and venues in the Philippines:

  • September 8, 2023 at the Market! Market! Activity Center
  • September 9, 2023 at the TriNoma Activity Center
  • September 10, 2023 at the SM City CDO Downtown
