[PHILIPPINES] Super Show 9: Even through ups and downs, we’re alright

“Our Super Show is a show that brings you happiness, joy, and hope.” These are just some of the words that Super Junior‘s Leeteuk uttered as the six members who flew to Manila the night before to face their fans. Super Shows have established a solid ground in the K-Pop concert scene. Now on their ninth tour, the men of Super Junior continue to draw crowds because of their expertise in the field.

But that night was not like the other concerts they’ve held before. Super Junior was scheduled for a concert in Manila on August 6, 2022 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. However, due to the announcement of the passing of Eunhyuk‘s father, the members and organizers have decided that it would be best to postpone the concert to a later date.

But Super Junior being Super Junior, has decided to display an ample amount of consideration and respect to their fans who have been looking forward to that very day for years. Leeteuk, Yesung, Shindong, Donghae, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun proceeded to face their fans not because they needed to given the situation they were in, but because they wanted to.

“This is truly unexpected. I really didn’t know a lot of people would come today,” Shindong says as he wiped his tears and stared at the Sapphire Blue Ocean in front of them. Ryeowook wished everyone good health and promised to return with Eunhyuk and Siwon (who tested positive for COVID-19 a few days before the scheduled concert) when they return.

Donghae conveyed his honest emotions by saying that he didn’t know what to feel as it was their first time having an opening MENT like that despite having numerous performances in the past. “My ‘sorry’ is the only expression that I can give you guys,” he said. “And to the member who’s facing very unfortunate situations in Korea, I am also deeply saddened. We’re sorry for not being able to repay you with a good performance despite the long time that you have waited to see us.”

Yesung and Kyuhyun also offered their apologies and expressed that they’ve worried about the fans’ feelings when it came to the situation and how they’ve been surprised by the amount of ELFs who came to see them that night.

Leeteuk quickly turned the solemn atmosphere into a hopeful one by sharing how much they’ve thought about what to do, even having meetings until 4AM, just to have a clear decision. He reiterated that the concert was postponed, not cancelled, and to give back to those who came that night, he requested for Super Show 9 to be held over two days by the time they come back. “Just think that you bought your tickets early,” he joked.

“Some of you may probably be affected by the postponement of this concert so this is the littlest respect we can give you all. To my lovely ELF, to the staff, to be all happy, we will come back as soon as possible. In the center during that time will be Siwon, and by my side, my double ganger Eunhyuk.”

Super Junior then sang My Wish, Callin’, and More Days With You as a gift to those who attended.

The atmosphere was sad in many ways but how the members and fans dealt with the situation just proved the strong dynamics and understanding between Super Junior and their ELF. This just shows how going through so many ups and downs in the past 17 years has contributed to the amount of consideration both parties have for each other and for themselves as well.

ELFs were then advised to hold on to their tickets as details on the reschedule will be announced as soon as possible.
