Wi Ha Jun was ready to play (and so were his Filipino fans) at his fan meeting last May 21, 2023, at the New Frontier Theater!
Dressed handsomely in an orange t-shirt, acid-washed jeans, and white sneakers, Wi Ha Jun was welcomed with screams from fans as he excitedly went on stage and flashed his signature smile. The actor joins the roster of Korean ambassadors for BENCH/, one of the biggest clothing brands in the Philippines.
Despite acting for over 10 years, it was hard to believe that this was Wi Ha Jun’s first fan meeting ever. The actor, who first started his career in film, steadily rose to fame after starring in hit TV dramas Romance is Bonus Book and 18 Again. His breakout role was Hwang Jun Ho in the critically-acclaimed mega-hit Netflix series Squid Game.
Press Start: Getting to Know Wi Ha Jun
Known as a versatile actor, Wi Ha Jun showed his more personal side through the talk segments with veteran host Sam Oh. In true Filipino fashion, one of the questions asked if he was able to try Filipino food. Unfortunately, the actor didn’t have the chance to, but he sure will return to the Philippines, either visiting Boracay’s white sand beach or enjoying the beauty of Cebu.
Wi Ha Jun likes keeping his fans updated through his Instagram, so it was only fitting to talk in-depth about his posts. Fans squealed when he recreated his famous scene in Squid Game and his heart-fluttering encounter with Kim Go Eun’s character in Little Women. When asked if he likes to read, Wi Ha Jun referred to himself as more of a “scriptworm” than a bookworm.
With his modelesque physique, it is no wonder that most of the scripts he receives are action-packed. Wi Ha Jun will star alongside Ji Chang Wook in The Worst of Evil, an upcoming crime action series. When asked what fans can look forward to in his new project, he had everyone squealing with just two words: “his sexiness”. Now, that’s how you excite a crowd!
Speaking of sexiness, Wi Ha Jun got everyone blushing when his post-workout photos were shown on screen. Having been featured in Korea’s Men’s Health magazine, the actor admitted to giving up eating noodles and chips to be in top form. Surprisingly, the actor revealed that he used to be skinny before, but after being enlisted in the military, he maintained his physique by diligently exercising. He said he usually doesn’t like working out, but if that would delight the fans, he is more than happy to keep his body in shape.
Another interesting (and adorable) side of Wi Ha Jun is his love and affection for his six-year-old niece. Wi Ha Jun shared that among the things that they enjoy together is role-playing, and he hinted that he would absolutely love to have a daughter as a firstborn!
Collecting Hearts: Fans Play to Win
Since the theme is “gameplay”, the fan meeting would not be complete without playing games with Wi Ha Jun!
Popularized by the Netflix series Squid Game, the first game is Mugunghwa kkoci pieot seumnida or, as Westerners translate it, Red Light, Green Light. Lucky fans were dressed in bridal attire and raced toward Wi Ha Jun without getting caught. The winner got a hug and a solo photo with Wi Ha Jun!
In another Squid Game-inspired game, Don’t Step on the Box, chosen fans had to make their way across the stage by avoiding stepping on hollow boxes. During this game, Wi Ha Jun proved to be a gentleman as he held the fans’ hands to avoid possibly hurting themselves!
As if things couldn’t get any better, one of the highlights of the fan meeting was having a ramyun date on stage with Wi Ha Jun! The actor mentioned that he loves eating noodles, and he is so specific about how he wants it to be that he kept asking if the water is measured at exactly 900ml.
While waiting for the noodles to be cooked, Sam Oh asked Wi Ha Jun a few questions about his ideal type and date. Wi Ha Jun answered that he likes a girl who enjoys eating and would love to take her out on a stroll as their first date!
Charming, sexy, and romantic — Wi Ha Jun proved that he is more than the roles he portrays on screen. He gamely interacted with his fans, giving them hugs and flashing his sweet smile. He even showcased some of his awesome dance moves! Clearly, he enjoyed his first-ever fan meeting, mentioning that he would gladly take all the energy back to Korea.
It was a night of many firsts for Wi Ha Jun, and his Filipino fans can indeed look forward that this won’t be his last. For now, we restart that night of fun and games with Wi Ha Jun.
The Seoul Story would like to thank BENCH/ for sending us a media invite! We hope to see Wi Ha Jun in Manila again soon. 🙂
