On 25th January 2019, loud cheers and
Clad in dazzling all-white getups, the girls began the night by performing their debut songs ‘Welcome to MOMOLAND’ and ‘JJan!
In their next segment, the girls sat down while photos from their everyday lives flashed on the screen behind them, not knowing which photos were going to be shown. An adorable photo taken by Daisy showing the girls fooling around backstage appeared on screen, and she shared that it was taken in Hong Kong during the Mnet Asian Music Awards last December 14, 2018.
A close-up photo of Taeha at the beach with her hands in a praying gesture was also shown, and she explained that it was taken during New Year’s Day and she was making a wish. When asked by the emcee what wish she made, she said that she wished that Merries would be happy and healthy in this new year, which touched the crowd’s heart.
Following that segment, the girls took center stage as they performed ‘Freeze’ and ‘Wonderful Love’. As the girls exited the stage to prepare for their next performances, a VCR of them playing around in their practice room and some behind the scenes footage from their music video filming for ‘Bboom Bboom’ were played on screen.
The mood turned mellow when the girls returned on stage in soft pink costumes as they sang ‘Curious’ and ‘Only One You’. In the beginning of the fanmeeting, the girls mentioned that they prepared something very special for Filipino Merries; it turned out that the surprise they were talking about was a cover of Yeng Constantino’s ‘Salamat’, which had everyone swaying and singing along. “Salamat” means “thank you” in Filipino, which made the song even more meaningful when the girls sang it to their fans.
Daisy, JooE, and Nancy chatted with the audience while the other members went to get ready for their special stages. Daisy explained that they chose ‘Salamat’ as their gift for Filipino Merries because it’s a famous song here in the Philippines and so they prepared for it well. As another gift for their fans, JooE showed off her vocal power as she sang Bruno Mars’ ‘Grenade’ with flawless pronunciation despite her worry that she might mispronounce some lines.
Ahin and Taeha were the ones to start the special unit stages with their emotional performance of ‘I Want You and I Need You’, which they sang for the OST of the 2018 K-drama, ‘Cross’. The next members to perform were Jane, Nayun, and Yeonwoo with their sultry cover of ‘Something’ by Girl’s Day. Last but not the least, Daisy, JooE, and Nancy turned the heat up with their cover of 2NE1’s ‘Can’t Nobody’.
After a quick wardrobe change into their cute blue sweaters and white bottoms, the girls went on to perform ‘Bingo Game’ and crowd-favorites, ‘BAAM’ and ‘Bboom Bboom’. One last VCR played on screen, showing touching pre-debut footage of the girls and their journey since ‘Finding Momoland’. 25th January 2019 marked the 807th day since MOMOLAND debuted and the girls said that they never imagined that they would be receiving the kind of love they have right now. The last words that were flashed on screen were, “We are happy to be MOMOLAND and we thank you for being Merry-Go-Round.”
The girls returned on stage not long after for their encore stages with their cover of Camila Cabello’s ‘Havana’ and another round of ‘BAAM’ and ‘Bboom Bboom’; during which they gave out tons of fanservice, playing with the toys the fans handed over and even taking photos and videos with the phones of some lucky members of the audience. The night ended like how it began; with sweet smiles and high spirits. Both MOMOLAND and Filipino Merries will surely put this night high on the list of the best nights of their lives. 🙂
The Seoul Story would like to thank DnM Entertainment for the media invite and allowing us to be part of MOMOLAND’s first-ever fanmeeting in Manila! We’re looking forward to seeing the girls in Manila again soon! 🙂
