Before finally seeing her Filipino fairies for one special night at the SM Sky Dome, Korean actress and model Lee Sungkyung first got the members of the press (and some lucky fans) endeared by her natural charm and cuteness during the press conference of her Be Joyful Tour: Fan Meeting in Manila, July 26, at the Dolphy Theater, ABS-CBN Compound.
The multi-talented actress was as ethereal as ever as she welcomed the audience with an excited smile on her face. After some apparent swooning from the crowd, Sungkyung proceeded to answering questions prepared for her by the media and some of her fans.
She shared that as much as her Filo fans have been waiting for her to come to the Philippines, she also has been eagerly requesting to meet her Filipino fans ever since she learned that her drama ‘Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo‘ did well in capturing the hearts of K-drama followers in the country. She added that she’s really elated, now that it’s finally happening.
Speaking of Weightlifting Fairy, Sungkyung admitted that she had a very hard time preparing for her role as Kim Bok Joo. She said she needed to study Bok Joo’s character a lot in order to understand and portray the student athlete well.
She also struggled physically as she was playing the role, Sungkyung shared. As a lot of people already know, the actress was first a model before she ventured into acting. Playing as Bok Joo demanded Sung Kyung to leave her lean body for a while in exchange of a chubbier one.
Despite this, she assured everyone that she actually enjoyed her career shift from being a model to being an actress, and that she’s looking forward to how much she can still improve her craft as an artist.
It was the drama ‘It’s Okay That’s Love‘ which gave her the opportunity to do the shift, with it being her first acting stint. That is why she’s still overly thankful of the said project, specially since she got to work with some of the greatest actors and actresses in the industry through the series.
Aside from acting, Sungkyung is also known to be an all-rounder, as she also has an undeniable talent in music and rhythm, as apparent in her song and dance covers. However, when asked if she ever considered entering the idol world, Sungkyung immediately shook her head saying she never really thought about it, and that the idea is “too big for her.”
But really, we can never know, can we?
Sungkyung is also known for her admirable fashion sense, be it casual or glamorous. That is why a lot of her fans look up to her in terms of styling their OOTDs. When asked what’s the most important component of the ‘Lee Sungkyung look,’ she cadidly said it is self-confidence. She isn’t wrong.
Sungkyung’s career is definitely at its peak now, as proven by the box office success of ‘Girl Cops,’ her recent film with famed actress Ra Mi Ran. But the beautiful artist stays humble. When asked if there is anything else up her bucket list, she only mentioned modest goals, such as spending a month abroad with her family, being healthy, and doing a good job in her future projects.
As the press conference was drawing to an end, Sungkyung grabbed the chance to thank her Filipino fans for giving her much love and support the past few years. She assured them that she’ll come back again, either for a well-deserved vacation, or for a second fan meeting in the country.
And that’s something we all would definitely look forward to.
We would like to thank CDM Entertainment for letting us cover this event.
