It was a night of show-stopping performances from Taeyeon, The Boyz, and aespa at K-Verse, a fan-centric gathering and K-Pop festival held last April 11 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum!
The venue was filled with screams and excitement from Filipino SONEs, TheBs, and MYs as their favourite girls and boys graced the Ultimate Pop Universe stage.
Read on as we recap what went on during the concert!
Next Level Fourth-Gen It-Girls
Filipino MYs had the time of their lives as K-Verse marks aespa’s debut on the Philippine stage! The girls from Kwangya opened the show with Black Mamba and Illusion, global hit tracks from their album Girls released last 2022. Karina, Winter, Giselle, and Ningning definitely wowed the crowd with their powerful vocals and stunning visuals. They performed more of their hits for the first time: Life’s Too Short, Lingo, Savage, and Next Level.
Karina, the leader of the group, turned 23 on the same day so the crowd greeted her with a Happy Birthday song in English and Korean! “This is such a memorable birthday for me. You guys are my gift. Thank you so much,” Karina said.
Before ending their setlist, the girls also gave Filipino MYs a hint on their upcoming comeback through various poses! A few days later, SM Entertainment confirmed the news of aespa’s comeback on May 8.
We are so looking forward for the girls’ new album!
The Boyz are Back Again
The 11-member boy group showed unstoppable performances as they graced the stage next. They hyped up the crowd with their electrifying performances of ROAR, MAVERICK and The Stealer.
Filipino Deobis were so thrilled to see them live again as their last visit to the Philippines was in 2019 during the Asia Fan-Con Tour “The Castle” in Manila.
The Boyz showed more of their charismatic side as they performed Salty, Dancing Till We Drop, and Thrill Ride.
Main rapper Sunwoo also celebrated his 23rd birthday last April 12 so the crowd was able to greet him in advance during the concert, singing the Happy Birthday song for Sunwoo in both Korean and English as well!
The maknae or youngest of the group, Eric, told the audience to “Stan The Boyz before it’s too late,” earning a cheer of agreement from Deobis in attendance. The Boyz promised that they will come back in Manila soon, hopefully for a solo concert!
The Ultimate Vocal Queen
Best known as one of the most powerful solo acts in the industry, Taeyeon completely shook us to the core as she opened her setlist with I.
It came as no surprise when the leader and main vocalist of Girls’ Generation had the whole dome totally mesmerized with her live vocals. She continued her solo performances of her hits Toddler, Set Myself on Fire, Four Seasons and What Do I Call You.
It has been four years since Taeyeon’s last visit in Manila and Filipino SONEs chanted for her to come back for a solo concert again. Taeyeon revealed that she’s preparing for a concert so her Filipino fans can wait just a little bit!
She expressed her gratitude to all the fans who went and spent the night with her. “It’s been so long since I felt the love and passionate cheers from all of you. I really enjoyed tonight very much,” Taeyeon said as she bid goodbye before her last song INVU.
It was definitely a night to remember for the Filipino SONEs, Deobis, and MYs as they were able to see their favorite idols live at The Ultimate Pop Universe – K-Verse in Manila!
