South Korean actor Kim Bum made his long-awaited comeback in Manila last September 22, 2023 at the New Frontier Theater for his 2023 Kim Bum Asia Tour ‘Between U and Me’ Fan Meeting!
Kim Bum, with his mesmerizing looks and undeniable talent, has captured hearts worldwide through his compelling performances on the small and big screens. The actor is known for his roles in various popular television dramas and films. He gained widespread fame and recognition for his portrayal of the character So Yi Jung in the hit South Korean drama series Boys Over Flowers that was released back in 2009.
After a decade-long wait, Kim Bum has at last graced Manila with his presence, reuniting with his devoted and supportive Filipino fans. To kick off his fan meeting, he treated the audience to a live rendition of Wind Song and Kiss the Rain, both of which serve as official soundtracks for the Korean drama Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938, in which he played Lee Dong Wook‘s younger brother.
Segment 1: Bum’s Update
Kim Bum shared insights into the recent developments in his career. He also took a moment to express his admiration for his Filipino fans, describing them as incredibly passionate.
Furthermore, Kim Bum disclosed his MBTI personality type as INTJ, a relatively uncommon classification. He humorously added, “Many people often see me as more of a ‘J’ person. Personally, I believe I lean heavily towards being a ‘J’.”
Segment 2: Kim Bum Awards
The fan meeting attendees engaged in a voting activity where they had to speculate which word Kim Bum had selected. The options presented were “cute”, “sexy”, “beautiful”, and “cool”, with the first one garnering the highest number of votes.
Kim Bum, however, hesitated and blushed when attempting to pick from the remaining words, ultimately describing himself as “cool”.
Fans also participated in a selection process to decide which of Kim Bum’s drama roles that they wanted to introduce to their best friends. The nominated roles included Lee Rang from Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938, Go Seung Tak from Ghost Doctor, Han Joon Hwi from Law School, and So Yi Jung from Boys Over Flowers.
Lee Rang and So Yi Jung received the highest number of votes, but Kim Bum personally opted for Go Seung Tak. Reflecting on his various roles, Kim Bum noted that the character of Lee Rang held the most profound significance to him.
Segment 3: Dancing Bum
In this segment, fans were presented with cropped photos on the screen and had to make a guess about which character or drama Kim Bum had appeared in based on those images. If the fans guessed correctly, Kim Bum would then be obliged to dance as a form of penalty or punishment.
Kim Bum lost three times and he had to dance to NewJeans’ ETA, Jisoo’s Flower, and Le Serrafim’s Eve, Psyche & the Bluebeard’s Wife.
Segment 4: Bum’s TMI
In the segment, Kim Bum played games with fans, who tried to guess his preferences. Questions ranged from how many coffees he had that day, to how many alarms he had. Fans who successfully won the game were rewarded with the opportunity to have their photo taken with Kim Bum on stage.
Segment 5: Challenge with Bum
In this game, Kim Bum and fans had to play a game which included throwing arrows, tossing sipa (a traditional Filipino game similar to Korea’s jegichagi) five times, and flipping 10 colored papers. The fastest group that was able to do it, won the game.
The victorious group, along with the section they represented, received a valuable limited edition photocard as their well-deserved prize.
Last Segment: Bum Therapy
Kim Bum personally crafted a customized tumbler and presented it as a gift to a lucky fan. Although he modestly admitted that he didn’t possess exceptional drawing skills, he expressed his hope that his fans would still like it.
To end the fan meeting, Kim Bum sang When I Get Old by Christopher and Chung Ha, and the encore song My Universe by Coldplay and BTS.
“I had fun, I really had a good time, I enjoyed seeing you and I hope that this is also a good memory for you as it was for me,” said Kim Bum.
The Seoul Story would like to thank Viu Philippines for the media invite!
