South Korean girl group IVE — comprised of members Gaeul, An Yujin, Rei, Jang Wonyoung, Liz, and Leeseo — made their debut on the Philippine concert stage with their first fan concert, The Prom Queens, held last June 17, 2023 at the Araneta Coliseum.
A day prior to their highly anticipated concert, the girls sat down with the press at the Novotel Manila Araneta City to talk about their first impression of the Philippines, their first full-length album, and more.
As this was their first visit to the country, the girls were asked how they felt about being in Manila to finally greet their Filipino DIVEs. “We received such a warm welcome here and we’re excited for our fan concert tomorrow,” Wonyoung answered, admiring the signature hospitality of Filipinos.
After achieving tremendous success with their digital singles, IVE finally released their first full-length album, I’ve IVE, last April 10. Yujin highlighted the album’s themes of self-love and said that it’s special because all the members were involved in the songwriting process.
When asked about their personal favourites among their songs, Rei shared that Shine With Me is one of their favourites on the latest album because it brings back precious memories they’ve made with their beloved DIVEs. As for Leeseo, she loves the title track I AM as it reflects their tenacity as artists. Liz, meanwhile, said that their debut song Eleven remains as the most memorable for her because it was the song that introduced IVE to everyone.
The girls also expressed their love for one of their latest songs, Kitsch. Gaeul mentioned that it’s one of the songs that she enjoys dancing to the most, adding that a lot of artists took part in the dance challenge for it.
Additionally, Wonyoung expressed that the Kitsch music video was her favourite one to shoot. She said that she enjoyed filming the music video because it was their first time trying out the genre. Kitsch was released last March 27 as a pre-release track from I’ve IVE.
On what the fans should expect in their first fan concert, Yujin shared: “The fans can expect a very collaborative event that both them and the members can enjoy. We will also be performing different songs that have never been broadcasted.”
After the Manila leg of their The Prom Queens tour, IVE is headed to Taipei, Singapore, and Bangkok to greet more international DIVEs for the first time.
