Dubbed as the “Cherry Prince” by his fans, EXO’s Chanyeol is back once again in the Philippines for his fan meeting event as the latest global ambassador of local clothing brand, Penshoppe. The event was held on December 16, 2023 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Hours before the fanmeeting, Chanyeol met the media and some lucky fans for an exclusive press conference where he shared his thoughts on becoming a Penshoppe global ambassador and his feelings about meeting Filipino EXO-Ls once again.
When asked about his personal style and how it aligns with Penshoppe’s, Chanyeol said that now that he’s older, he prefers modern and casual styles more. He likes Penshoppe’s relaxed-fit shirts so much that he even has them in different colors.
Chanyeol also shared that since he has been in the Philippines several times this year, he has always received so much energy from fans as Filipinos are passionate people so he was really looking forward to the fan meeting.
Chanyeol kicked off the fan meeting with a performance of Nothin’ — his solo song from EXO-SC‘s 1 Billion Views album — just enough to get the crowd fired up for the first segment called “Keeping Up With Chanyeol”.
He was asked about his favorite piece of clothing where the singer shared his liking of Penshoppe’s short-sleeved shirt, a fact that he mentioned quite a few times during the event, because it highlights his biceps to which the crowd reacted quite intensely.
During this segment, we also got to learn that Chanyeol stayed in the Philippines for a short time during his middle school years to study English and that he had also been to Pagsanjan Falls in Laguna.
Afterwards, Chanyeol eagerly engaged with fans in the “Fast Talk” segment where he was asked to choose between two things and he had to answer them within seconds, hence the name.
This was followed by the segment “Don’t Mess Up Tempo” , a nod to one of EXO’s most popular title tracks. In this game, an EXO choreography was shown on screen while a different EXO song plays which was supposed to make the game hard and confusing, but of course it came as no surprise when Chanyeol knocked it out of the Park (pun intended), and correctly guessed all of them.
Chanyeol continued to perform with SSFW and Tomorrow to his fans’ delight as this was one of the few opportunities he got to perform his solo songs live.
The saying that time sure flies fast when you are enjoying it must be true because we were already in the final part of the fanmeeting. Chanyeol showcased his artistic skills by designing and customizing three Penshoppe shirts.
He even drew his dog Zzar on one of the shirts and proudly said that she’s his daughter. Chanyeol also signed these shirts which were eventually raffled off to three lucky Yeolmaes (Chanyeol’s individual fandom name).
For the final segment, Chanyeol played the game “Different Hit” where he had to say mahal kita (I love you) in different ways depending on the category shown on the screen. There was also a kilig (Filipino for romantic giddiness) meter which gauged the fans’ kilig based on their screams.
Ultimately, the kilig meter reached its peak when Chanyeol said mahal kita in a “strong” way by baring his biceps and uttering those two words.
Yeolmaes surprised Chanyeol with several fan projects including a rainbow ocean, a fan-made VCR, hand banner, and a cherry crown ocean. Fans also got a cherry crown for the singer to wear as the Cherry Prince himself. The fan’s efforts for these projects were quickly repaid as Chanyeol performed his latest single, Good Enough, to close out the show.
“This event is the perfect way to culminate Chanyeol’s exciting year with Penshoppe,” said Penshoppe brand director Brandon Liu. “The way Filipinos appreciate music and culture has evolved greatly over time and Penhsoppe’s partnership with Chanyeol is a testament to this appreciation for diversity. We’re proud to be a brand that enables the varied interests and capabilities of Filipinos today and we’re proud to do so with a powerhouse like Chanyeol,” he added.
Announced as its newest ambassador in March, Chanyeol has boasted of Penshoppe’s everyday-wear pieces, effortlessly pulling off looks from the brand’s Easy Neutrals collection—switching between both dressier and laid-back looks. His partnership with Penshoppe was meant not only to showcase his iconic style and fashion but to also strengthen the idol’s relationship with both his fans and Penshoppe patrons.
The Seoul Story would like to thank PENSHOPPE for inviting us to the press conference and fan meeting! We hope to see Chanyeol in the Philippines again soon!
