[PHILIPPINES] Ahn Hyo Seop Reflects on His Favourite Role, Growing Popularity, & More at Press Conference

“Hello! Kamusta ka? Ako si Ahn Hyo Seop! (How are you? I’m Ahn Hyo Seop!) Nice to meet you!” greeted the Korean actor during the press conference for his much-awaited fan meeting The Present Show in Manila.

The Korean actor is known for his roles in Abyss and Dr. Romantic, but gained immense popularity through his hit romantic comedy Business Proposal.

Manila is the sixth stop of the actor’s Asia fan meeting tour. Hyo Seop said that he really wanted to visit the Philippines but his busy schedule then did not allow him to, so he is happy to finally be here now. He also said that the fan meet was a great way for him to meet his fans, “While I was in Korea and working, I was actually thinking, ‘Do my fans really exist?’ But through this fan meet, I was able to really see clearly with my eyes the love-filled hearts of fans from different countries and I really felt it.”

“The title of the fan meet became Here and Now because I was thinking about the idea that the most time you can feel happiness is right here and right now. That’s why you have to make the most of the present,” the actor shared.

When asked about which previous role he identifies with the most, Hyo Seop said that it was Seo Woo Jin, a cynical second year surgery fellow in the medical drama Dr. Romantic. The character started out as a pessimist, but as the story progressed and he got to know more about the hospital staff, his worldview changed. Hyo Seop said he is thankful for this project because it changed him in a lot of ways, too. The actor also shared that he wants to try roles that suit his age, “I think student roles are not for me anymore.” He wants to try action roles in the future as well.

For his current drama A Time Called You, Hyo Seop said that the role was a bit challenging as he needed to constantly switch between his roles as Koo Yeon Jun and Nam Si Heon because of the time slips in the plot. He said that there were times that not only him, but his castmates as well, got confused so he had to study the role again and focus.

About his growing popularity, the actor said that he is grateful that he is in a time where South Korean media can be shared worldwide. He is thankful for all the love and support that he receives from fans all over the world. But despite this, Hyo Seop thinks that he is still lacking in many ways and that humbles him: “One thing I can promise as an actor is that I will acknowledge this shortcoming and also use this as a motivation to not stay contented but to try my best always.”

The actor also shared that he reads the letters sent to him by his fans. He said that he feels touched and grateful that he is able to influence even just one person. “So for me, being able to be a source of happiness to a lot of people […] is very heartwarming to me.”
