BLACKPINK appeared at a global press conference for their Netflix documentary ‘BLACKPINK: Light Up The Sky’. They were joined by the film’s director Caroline Suh.
The press conference was streamed live for media press and journalists on October 13.
During the press conference, Netflix announced BLACKPINK members will appear as Netflix icons. This feature will be available for all Netflix users on October 14.
When asked why they agreed to do the documentary, Jennie said they always want to find new ways to be closer to fans and did not hesitate when they met director Caroline Suh.
Jennie added: “Ever since we were teenagers, we opened up our feelings to each other, so we’re almost like family. That’s why I feel like we can communicate smoothly about work. While working on this project, we were able to get closer as we recalled the playful and childish sides that we had forgotten. This also made us think more about the future.”
Rosé shared one of the memorable scenes in the documentary was when the members looked at their footage from their trainee years and childhood. “That was really fun. We were talking about some of the old episodes, we were teasing each other,” she said.
Lisa felt awkward when the camera recording them constantly but grew more comfortable after a while and start being more playful. The director managed to capture that and she is thankful for that.
Jisoo shared they have been thinking about what else they can do next. Since they have shown how music is extendable content, they would like to delve more into that. She believes ten years from now, they will still be BLACKPINK without losing their own style.
Director Caroline Suh was not familiar with K-pop or BLACKPINK at first. For the documentary, she wants to tell the story of how BLACKPINK came together and what it is like to be part of the huge phenomenon from the members’ point of view.
‘BLACKPINK: Light Up The Sky’ will premiere exclusively on Netflix on October 14.
