[MALAYSIA] THE ROSE Rocked It Out in Kuala Lumpur with “We Rose You”

KL Live was full last Friday as rising idol band THE ROSE held their very first concert on the first leg of their Southeast Asia Tour in Kuala Lumpur. BLACK ROSEs (their fandom name) couldn’t hide their excitement as this also marked THE ROSE’s first ever arrival in Malaysia. Known for their hit track “SORRY”, the band consists of Woo Sung, Do Joon, Ha Joon and Jae Hyeong. On the concert day, BLACK ROSEs were spotted singing along to THE ROSE during soundcheck outside in the crowded waiting area.

A Medley of Emotions

Starting off with “I.L.Y”, The Rose came onto the stage as Black Roses chanted loudly for them. A medley was performed including ”Insomnia”, “I Don’t Know You” and “Candy (So Good)”. During the first talk segment, each member introduced themselves. Do Joon had a fluent introduction in English which had fans mesmerised over his perfect accent! Right after, the boys covered Woo Sung’s “Beautiful Girl” and followed with the melancholic track “Like We Used To”, the roadtrip-esque “California” and the emotional mellow rock “She’s In The Rain” which had the venue lit up by colourful LED roses – part of a fan-project by Black Roses.

Spectrum-like Charms

The Rose showed their diversity in performing different genres as tributes – such LANY’s “ILYSB”, THE SCRIPT’s “Breakeven”, and The Beatles’ “Hey Jude”. Each of the members also came out with their own covers . Do Joon presented his own version of James Bay’s “Hold Back The River” while Jae Hyeong and Ha Joon became a duo for Before You Exit’s “Soldier”. Woo Sung also serenaded Black Roses with tracks from his own solo album such as “MOON” and “FACE” with his groovy yet cute side of him!

A Fruitful Night for BLACK ROSES

Fans were blessed indeed as unreleased tracks such as “O.M.G!”, “Photographer” and “Can’t Let Go” were included in the set. Throughout these performances, the boys acknowledged Black Roses’ energy as Woo Sung said “You guys are too hot till my guitar broke.” Do Joon admitted that Kuala Lumpur is the loudest city ever after Black Roses chanted to the fullest. Jae Hyeong also added he wanted to listen to the loud cheer again and they will do more groovy and sexy headbanging riffs!

A Wholesome Ending

Lucky fans were selected from the crowd and rewarded with polaroids from The Rose. The concert came to an end with they performed their hit tracks “BABY”, “Sorry”, “RED” also “Take Me Down” from their second mini album. Woo Sung praised Malaysia’s weather as it is now cold in South Korea. He added that this is their first time to Southeast Asia and they would like to return here. Before wrapping up, the boys draped themselves with our Jalur Gemilang flag and a flag full of Black Roses’ signatures and greetings to mark the end of their Kuala Lumpur stop.

We had fun with The Rose and their whole discography is a worthy listen. The experience of seeing them live with their vocals and impressive performance is something to cherish! Their standing as an idol band with bursting charms and wit along with the excellent music is undoubted. We hope that the fans had fun with us throughout the concert and hope that more idol bands will come to Malaysia soon!
