[MALAYSIA] Lee Jae Wook Shook The Nation with Mind-Blowing Popularity in Kuala Lumpur

Actor Lee Jae Wook who rose to fame through the hit drama Alchemy of Souls, visited Malaysia as he was appointed as the honorary ambassador for Korea Tourism Organization at PJ PAC, 1 Utama, on December 20, 2022.

Hottest Sensation

The press conference for Annyeong Korea! with Lee Jae Wook started with a speech from Mr Yang Kyung Soo, Managing Director of Korea Tourism Organization. “We are indeed honoured to have Lee Jae Wook here with us as our Honourary Ambassador of Korea Tourism Organization.” Mr Yang added, “We hope to further elevate Korea as the top travel destination for Malaysians and create more opportunities for Malaysians to discover Korea together.”


“I was greeted with such love and warmth from the moment I arrived in Malaysia, and this will remain as one of my fondest memories. I would like to say thank you one more time.” said Lee Jae Wook. The actor also expressed his gratitude as 500 fans waited for his arrival at KLIA airport as it was his first time coming to Malaysia. He was also surprised that his current ongoing drama Alchemy of Souls Season 2 ranked #1 on Netflix Malaysia.

Heart-throbbing Visual

The actor shares that he didn’t have the chance to try any Malaysian dishes yet, but he has heard about many delicious food such as Nasi Lemak and Laksa. “I would definitely give it a try when I have the chance to,” expressed Jae Wook. He also learnt on how to pronounce ‘sedap’’ (delicious) in Malay language. Lee Jae Wook took the chance to recommend his favorite Korean dish ‘Doenjang jjigae’ (Korean Soybean Paste Stew), which he exclaimed ‘sedap’.


The Q&A session with media had Jae Wook to list down three main reasons to visit South Korea. “Three main reasons you should visit South Korea are its food, sport and unique night and day experience,” he claimed at the press conference. He shares his favourite attractions was Han River because of its beautiful scenery to which fans teased him by saying ‘let’s go together!’. He also highly recommends fans to go for winter season as it is also his favorite.

Annyeong Kawan! With Lee Jae Wook Meet & Greet

Rapper Kisum had her first performance in Malaysia as an opening stage for Annyeong Kawan! With Lee Jae Wook Meet & Greet. The rapper, known through Unpretty Rapstar, sang her iconic song, You and Me, and the crowd bopped along! Her fanservice heated the audience as she ran downstairs and interacted with the fans intimately. She expressed it was surprising that Malaysian audiences are witty and eloquent in Korean language.

Honorable Moments

Lee Jae Wook made his first appearance in front of public audience, which excited the crowd. He was rewarded with a plaque, a life-sized certificate and a standee of himself where he signed his autograph. Malaysia was chosen as the first country for the ‘Annyeong Kawan’ campaign. The actor shares it is a huge honor to be appointed as the honorary member of ‘K-Friends’, a global Hallyu fan community by Korea Tourism Organization to promote Korea.


The actor, who debuts through Memories of the Alhambra, unveils he didn’t have the chance yet to explore Malaysia, which fans deliberately suggested ‘lepak mamak’ (visit local restaurant). Lee Jae Wook was caught off guard as he confused ‘mamak’ with ‘mama,’ which the audience laughed along with as he teased the fans about eating with him. He also learned several Malay words, such as ‘Jom Kahwin’ (let’s get married) and ‘Sayang’ (honey), which melted the audience’s hearts.

The audience was quizzed on their knowledge of South Korean tourist attractions and questions for Kahoot! session. The top prize was a Samsung smartphone, while the first and second runners-up received one of Lee Jae Wook’s personal belongings. The winners had the chance to take a photo with Lee Jae Wook on stage. The fun didn’t end there as the segment continued with lucky draw sessions where fans could receive personal belongings of Lee Jae Wook!


It is Lee Jae Wook’s first event in Malaysia, yet his popularity is well-recognized by local fans with his drama dominating streaming platform and trending list on social media. We hope the actor will return to Malaysia for his upcoming first fan meeting in Asia, as we didn’t get enough of his hotness and wittiness throughout this meet and greet!
