[MALAYSIA] Hyolyn Sings TRUE in Kuala Lumpur Concert

Last Friday old and new fans alike, gathered to see Hyolyn who was here for the first time as a solo artist. After touring Europe on her 2019 1st World Tour TRUE, she made a stop in Taipei before finally reaching our shores here in Malaysia.

The show revealed two things: Hyolyn’s stage presence is undeniable, and when it comes to live vocals, Hyolyn means business – nothing the fans don’t already know!

Hyolyn kicked off her stage with a sultry opener that showed off a sexy, strong image as she was flanked by four dynamic and powerful dancers. She went into the upbeat “Paradise”, followed by “Dope”, each time showing that she could hold her own when it came to the dancing while belting out her notes.

Devil With An Angel’s Voice

After that initial burst of sexy and fierce energy and chatting with the audience to express her gratitude for being able to be here, she takes us through two slow songs, “To Do List” and “Lonely” – perfectly showcasing her gilded voice, strong, silvery and clear. This is before going back into another high-energy song, “One Way Love”, while dancing, rapping and singing perfectly. With the next song, “Massage”, little is left to imagine what she means.

She followed with a SISTAR medley including their hits “Ma Boy”, “Touch My Body” and “Shake It” – before proceeding to beguile us again with her rendition of “Goodbye”, an OST from the drama, “My Love From The Star”. Throughout the whole concert, she alternated between strong and sexy stages as well as soft and beautiful heartfelt ballads.

Playing Dirty

It was unfair. How could the crowd resist her charms?

The push and pull between sexy and soft was made even more evident between stages, when the chatty, cutesy Hyolyn would emerge. The singer had no problems coming down from the stage and walking through the audience, so close that we could hear her voice as she sang, making hearts and waving and speaking cutely when she interacted with the audience. At one point, she prepared a lucky draw for five fans who were told to make sure they came to the stage with their handphones, so that she could record a message in Malay, saying “Aku Cinta Pada Mu!” and waving cutely into the cameras for their own personalised greetings.

You could say she played with their feelings but they were willing to be played with! The only constant throughout the concert were her powerhouse vocals, which never faltered as she never seemed to tire from her dancing and her singing.

Powerhouse VS Pop Princess

She ended the segment with “Dally”, her sophomore single as a solo artist. The track is hip hop sexy, sultry and shows off her physical charms – and by virtue of comparison with all her slower songs, reminds us that even though she could rely solely on her vocal prowess, she will present a whole package that is entertaining.

With that confirmed, she returns to the stage with covers that showcases all the facets of her abilities – a stunning rendition of Sia’sChandelier”, which she softened without compromising on ability; and “Havana” by Camila Cabello, which she interspersed with a few stylistic nods to Michael Jackson.

The rest of the set includes another beautiful ballad and her favourite OST, “Crazy Of You”, as well as a song she was directly involved in writing and producing, “You Know Me Better”. She ends the night with “SEE SEA” and “Bae” before finishing with an encore consisting of “Love Like This” and the awesome Ariana, Nikki and Jessi J favourite, “Bang Bang”.

All in all, an awesome night that exceeded expectations! Please check out our HD photos on our Facebook page for more visuals.
