[MALAYSIA] From Seoul to KL: IU shared her Love Poem with KU-AENAs

Popularnya saya! IU exclaimed once hearing the loud cheers from Ku-aenas (a nickname for Malaysian UAENAs) proving her immense popularity in Malaysia. Gracing this land with her rendition of “Love Poem” for the first time, IU held her 2019 Tour Concert <Love, Poem> on Dec 21 at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur. IU belted out 28 songs throughout the 3.5 hour-long concert proving her 11 years of experience as an artist.

Donning a captivating white dress, IU appeared on stage serenading the crowd with the first song, ‘Unlucky‘. Following the heat of the cheers, she continued with ‘Palette‘, a song from her album of the same name that earned her Album of the Year in 2017.

After she performed ‘Autumn Morning‘ and ‘Friday‘, IU introduced herself by greeting Apa Khabar and shared how happy she was to be in Malaysia. She humorously commented on the Malaysian weather as peculiar because in just one day it went from sunny to rainy.

Along with her live band members, IU continued to perform her B-side track – ‘Secret Garden‘ which she described as the song that makes her dream again. After a handful of new tracks and a few hits – ‘The Visitor’, ‘Jam Jam’ and ‘Twenty-three’, IU showed her appreciation for her band members and back dancers by introducing them to the audience.

Sporting her purple microphone, IU continued the stage with ‘BBI-BBI’ and ‘Hold my Hand‘, claiming it is a high pitched song and challenging Ku-aenas whether they’ll be able to do the fan chant to the song. And they nailed it, of course! Ku-aenas surprised IU with an ocean of blue balloons during ‘Blueming’ and started singing along to ‘Meaning of You’.

IU even delighted her fans with a medley performance of the hit OSTs from her latest drama Hotel Del Luna. Dubbing herself as Jang Man Wol, fans were absolutely in awe throughout the splendid stage while appreciating the VCR displaying the scenes of the drama. IU stated this is her first time performing ‘Can You See my Heart‘ by Heize at her concert. She also shared an anecdote at the hotel when she arrived. She was told Hotel Del Luna had a massive popularity in Malaysia and expressed her gratitude for the support.

The show shifted into a slow tempo ballad with ‘Lullaby‘ and ‘Through the night’ that emphasized her vocals and poetic lyrics about missing somebody. Dressed in an off-shoulder mini red dress, she settled with a set of jazz and vintage sounds including ‘Dlwlrma‘ and ‘The Red Shoes‘. ‘Dlwlrma‘ actually corresponds to the letters on the Hangul keyboard for her real name, Lee Ji Eun. IU additionally played another astounding number from her latest album, ‘Above the Time’, followed by all-time favourite ‘You & I’.

The audience burst into laughter after IU’s witty remarks telling the fans to go to toilet or do some stretching while she took time to change her outfit. Ku-aenas also did not waste any time by highlighting their singing ability blasting out ‘All I want for Christmas is IU‘ as a part of the fan project. She came back on stage, delivering ‘Good Day‘ and ‘Love Poem‘ as the encore before exiting the stage.

But, wait! It ain’t over till it’s over! Rather than ending with just an encore, the concert ended with en-encore with another four songs – ‘My Old Story‘, ‘Leon‘, ‘Someday‘ and ‘End of the Day‘. Accompanying her pleasing vocals, her adorable and playful interaction with the back dancers was also the highlight of the night. End of the day marked the last performance of the night which caused big laughter thanks to their antics.

It is simply impossible to recreate the charm of the 3.5 hour show that graced Axiata Arena. This show concluded with her captivating music and huge smile plastered on the audience’s face.
