Last Saturday night, 8000 Malaysian BLINKs converged at Stadium Malawati for the eagerly-awaited first night of BLACKPINK’s “In Your Area” 2019 World Tour in Kuala Lumpur, filling the stadium to full capacity.
In a blaze of pink lighting and a huge explosion, the girls rose up onstage to a screaming audience and launched straight into “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du”. They followed with “Forever Young”, rising up on a lifted stage above a sea of soft pink double hearts!
After introducing themselves and speaking a little bit of Malay, they followed with “Stay”, a song which showcases their individual vocal
Next were the solo stages, and Jisoo began by entering seated atop a mirror ball-encrusted throne, singing her cover of “Clarity” by Zedd, something that got the audience hyped again after the break. Next on was Lisa, starting her solo dance with something sultry and sexy, before amping it right up to the reggaeton-inspired solo dance break to “Swalla” by Jason Derulo that has been going viral on social media.
Rosé went next, sitting at a barstool next to the live piano keyboard, singing a medley that showed off her bright silvery tone, “Let It Be” by John Lennon, “You and I” by Park Bom and “Only Look At Me” by Taeyang. Finally, Jennie rounded off the solo stages with her dynamic and swaggy first solo single “Solo”.
After the solo stages, The Band Six who have supported Big Bang and G-Dragon on their live tours, took over the stage and played an awesome live set until the girls came back singing their collaborative song with Dua Lipa, “Kiss and Make Up”, followed by their hot cover of “So Hot” by The Wonder Girls. Following up with the theme of heat, they go into “Playing With Fire” before taking turns to thank BLINKs for their support and love. They finish this set with a funked-up “See You Later”.
As they changed, a video clip showing the girls as glamorous race car drivers preparing for their race had the audience experiencing 4D effects as the stadium vibrated with the rumble of cars!
The highlight of the night could possibly be “BOOMBAYAH” because BLINKs were going crazy during the perormance! Then, after a particularly joyous rendition of “As If It’s Your Last“, the girls disappeared into the stage, waving goodbye! BLINKs couldn’t believe it was over, and turned on their phone lights, calling out for BLACKPINK in the semi-darkness.
Of course, the show’s not over, and the girls returned to the stage for a reprise of “Ddu-Du
