‘Get It Beauty’ has established itself to be a staple tvN-produced programme in news and updates about beauty, skincare and brands in Korea. Since its inception in 2010, it has become the mentor programme for many a beauty aficionado.
The latest season has taken the programme out of its studio environment, outside not only the set, but the country, beginning with its offshoot programme ‘Get It Beauty On The Road’ in Singapore. Those episodes were hosted by Sandara Park who had already spent some time gleaning beauty wisdom as an emcee on the parent programme in Korea.
This season, ‘Get It Beauty On The Road’ is in Malaysia, with four episodes shot in studio over four days – and we were invited to come watch! The hosts were made up of pioneer Get It Beauty emcee Kim Jung Min, Min (former Miss A member) and Kaka Azraff, a local singer celebrity. They were joined by South Korean make up artist, Kim Ki Soo.
After the filming ended, we were able to spend a little time with the emcees to find out a little more about their experience shooting for the programme, and in Malaysia.
Upon settling down to her interview Jung Min reeled off a full greeting in the Malay language, introducing herself and welcoming the media to the studio.
Something interesting that Jung Min had to say was that, as a beauty mentor (her specific role as an emcee on such a show), she must always present the best of herself and be up to date on trends and brands and techniques. However, she prefers natural makeup and believes that one must take care of not only outward beauty, but inner beauty as well. She practises meditation and yoga, and has a Malaysian yoga instructor, which explains her fluency in the language. She believes that taking care of mental health is important too.
Being on the road in Malaysia has given her the opportunity to give more realistic advice to the audience – and she has been surprised by the interest in K-Beauty here. She noted that the similarities between Korean and Malaysian audiences are that most girl wants a fresh, matte-looking complexion – and the differences are that Korean audiences are more interested in brands and trendy products, while Malaysian audiences want tips and techniques for skincare and makeup.
When Min was asked what she thought was an underrated beauty tip, her immediate answer was confidence! Asked what product was absolutely a necessity in Malaysia, Kaka answered, sunscreen and Min went on to say that a light foundation was the way to keep things fresh.
Following that, Kaka mentioned that she was glad for the opportunity to work with Min and Jung Min, and was happy to find that the programme didn’t just cover products and brands, but also encouraged people to enhance their natural beauty with simple and fresh makeup, rather than cover up their looks with thick layers.
When asked if she would go back to acting, Jung Min stated that she is comfortable doing any format, be it variety, emceeing, or acting – and that if an opportunity for acting came up, she would definitely take it! Min has been collaborating with other artistes and has recently released a single, featuring on Deepshower’s “Marathon”, a trippy dance track in English that showcases her sweet, light vocals.
All in all, it was refreshing to meet with down-to-earth emcees in a programme that is about beauty trends and brands, and we enjoyed the light-hearted and welcoming atmosphere created in the studio by the cast and crew. Thank you to Fast Track Events for inviting us! 🙂
