About a month ago on an overcast day in Kuala Lumpur, CLOVD met with us to talk about his solo debut album and life after being a boy group idol.
Having left Topp Dogg (now known as XENO-T) after differences with management, CLOVD (formerly known as Gohn) set about putting his singer/songwriter/producer skills to work – and is in the midst of completing his first album.
This year he began his new venture “PROJECT CLOVD”: a scheduled release of consecutive songs on Soundcloud and Youtube, that will eventually comprise a full solo debut album to be released in the coming months. So far, five songs have been released, with the latest song “Question” released just two weeks ago.
“Question” is a gently lilting ballad with a soaring chorus, have a listen to it here:
We asked him about his songwriting process, and were surprised how much his fans are a part of his process and inspiration. Charming and earnest, it was obvious he has a heartfelt passion for his music and loyal fans.
Check out what he has to say about “Question” and other songs in our interview here:
With a style that is a mixture of the Slow Jam R&B of the 90s and a clean, pared-down, low-key vibe, CLOVD’s music is a showcase of both his writerly skills and his warm, sexy vocals. And whilst he claims that his song “Slow Motion” is a thank you to his fans, after a good listen to the English lyrics one can’t help but feel that the passions run deeper than that!
Check out the song here:
We would like to thank CLOVD for spending some time with us during his stay in Malaysia. Stay tuned for more updates in the future! 🙂
