Q: The characters in the drama are so different from one another, how was it like filming for the scenes?
Jung Eun Chae: The presentation of how all three main characters had their pasts entangled together but only got to meet after living away from each other and finding how about the past was really interesting to me.
Q: If you could switch your character to anyone from ‘The Guest’ who would it be and why?
Jung Eun Chae: It might be because I am now feeling attached to the character of Kang Gil Young, but I would choose to stick to her even if given a choice.
Q: Without giving any spoilers, what is the most memorable line in the script?
Jung Eun Chae: The script expresses how after losing her mother to a murder suspect who was later found dead, Gil Young while crying, went to her senior Detective Go to tell him about how she regretted not treating her mother better and how she misses her.
Q: Without giving any spoilers, what is one of the scenes from ‘The Guest’ that took a long time to film, and why?
Jung Eun Chae: It was the scene that stretched from episode 5 to 6 that depicts Kim Ryun Hee being exorcised. It was a scene where all three main characters had to come together to help the possessed and therefore I remember it to be one that took a long time to film.
Q: Could you share with us some special preparations each of you had to do for ‘The Guest’?
Jung Eun Chae: As I had to play the role of a detective, I did attend an action school and had to look up on previous productions that were of the same or similar genre.
Q: Filming a drama is not easy and the actors as well as production crew sometimes get tired; what are some of the things the cast would do together to kill time when waiting on set, or to just lighten the atmosphere?
Jung Eun Chae: As the crew were made out of individuals who were really cooperative and considerate, the entire atmosphere was an enjoyable and delightful one.
Q: What was the most memorable thing that has happened on set?
Jung Eun Chae: The most memorable moment for me was when I had to jump off a building with only cables and no action double to cover for me. Although the action double was present on set, the director did give me the choice to complete the scene on my own and I did want to challenge completing the scene personally from start to finish without a double. That was a really memorable day for me.
Q: How is ‘The Guest’ different from other crime dramas?
Jung Eun Chae: The drama is a crime thriller that has the eastern style of Shamanism combined into it.
Q: What is going to surprise viewers of this show the most?
Jung Eun Chae: The presence of Park Il Do being the only thing that is being pursued by the characters in the drama.
Q: In ‘The Guest’, Kang Gil Young does not believe in the supernatural. Is this different from what you are in real life, and if it is, was it difficult easing into the character as Kang Gil Young?
Jung Eun Chae: In reality, I do believe in the supernatural, but I had to put in effort into assimilating myself with Kang Gil Young while observing her past and present.
Q: If there is something you could say to your character in the drama, what would it be and why?
Jung Eun Chae: Gil Young is someone whose actions follows her heart.
Q: As this is not the first time filming a similar genre of crime/mystery/thriller, what kind of difficulties did you still face when acting as Choi Yoon?
Kim Jae Wook: ‘The Guest’ is a drama that depicts exorcism the Korean way. Although this isn’t the first time I’ve taken up a role of a darker genre, the propensity of the entire production itself is way different from the previous ones. The difficulty lies not only in how I have to put on a physical fight with the possessed, but also how I have to imagine the physically non-existent greater spirit of Park Il Do and conveying the relevant emotions to the audiences. Despite that, I am still having a lot of fun while filming.
