[INDONESIA] Yoo Yeon Seok Unveils Some Secrets at ‘The Secret Code: Y’ in Jakarta

Despite the drizzles of rain and the cool air at JIEXPO Theatre in Jakarta, there was a warm buzz all around as Yeoniverse (fandom name) waited for their beloved idol, Yoo Yeon Seok, to come up on stage for 2025 YOO YEON SEOK FANMEETING [The Secret Code: Y] ASIA TOUR IN JAKARTA

Although best known for his work as an actor, Yoo Yeon Seok opened his fanmeeting by serenading fans with See The Light, an original soundtrack from his latest drama, When The Phone Rings (2024), where he played the charismatic Baek Sa Eon. This song sheds some light on Baek Sa Eon’s true feelings, as he admits that behind the cold gazes exchanged between him and his partner, Hong Hee Joo, he harbors a deep love for her.

After the first performance, Yoo Yeon Seok greeted the Indonesian fans. “I’m finally in Jakarta! I’m excited, yet nervous, as this is the very last stop of the tour. You guys were screaming very loudly, creating butterflies in my stomach, but because of this, I’m even more motivated to give it my all,” he said. When asked for tips on how fans can enjoy this show better, he cheekily answered, “Just focus on me.” which sparked laughter from everyone in attendance.

It was then time for the first segment of the night, Yeon Seok’s Commentary. The giant screen on stage showed several actors, actresses, and crew from When The Phone Rings. When the face of Chae Soo Bin, who played Hong Hee Joo in the drama, appeared on screen, the fans squealed excitedly, yelling “Cieeee..” — a playful expression used by Indonesians when they ship two people together. To this, Yoo Yeon Seok said, “Indonesian fans have such unique reaction that is so different from other places, it makes this show even more special.

After this heartwarming section of the show, Yoo Yeon Seok came back with another song. This time, he was not alone! He brought along Lee Jun, the music director of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, a musical which Yoo Yeon Seok was a part of. With Lee Jun on the guitar, Yoo Yeon Seok managed to capture the hearts of Yeoniverse as he sang his version of Love of My Life, originally by Queen.

It would not have been the perfect fanmeeting without some games. To ensure Yeoniverse got additional gifts, Yoo Yeon Seok had to play several games back-to-back, from bowling with whiteboard markers as the pins, to intricate jump rope challenges, and even guessing the Indonesian food. He did it all! He then drew papers from a box to pick the winners who would receive a signed poster from the man himself.

The next segment featured a heartfelt tribute from the Indonesian Yeoniverse to their idol, Yoo Yeon Seok. In the fan-made video, Yeoniverse from all over the archipelago showcased their love and dedication to the actor — from watching his drama at home to arranging watch parties with fellow fans! Although it was still six days before his actual birthday, the fans also sang Happy Birthday to Yoo Yeon Seok, ensuring he would have a memorable birthday, even days in advance.

Unfortunately, the night had to come to a close. To end the show, Yoo Yeon Seok sang Say My Name, also from When The Phone Rings. The song perfectly conveyed a mix of longing, desire, and a touch of vulnerability. It was surely a memorable night for everyone in the room and we cannot wait for the next time Yoo Yeon Seok visits Indonesia!
